I just got my first mount unit, and was wondering how mounts work.

1.)  How do you mount?  Does it take a full turn, or just a move action, or what?

2.)  How about dismounting?

3.)  Can I start the game mounted?

4.)  Does moving a mounted unit cost 2 activations?

5.)  The mounted charge lets you attack with the mount and the rider.  Can I charge with mount, swing with mount, free swing with character, then get off and charge with character on his turn?

6.)  What happens if the mount gets feared, or pushed, or pulled, or teleported, or immobilized?  If the mount gets pushed, can I elect to have the rider jump off?

7.)  What if the rider gets slowed, does the mount get slowed?

8.)  While running past enemies and provoking opportunity attacks, does the mount get hit, or the character, or is it the attackers choice, or does the attacker get to swing at both?

Any other information that would help a noob understand mounts would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

look at the errata at wizards in the minis section.

1) move action, provokes AOOs

2) move action, no AOOs

3) yes

4) you activate each one separately

6) if you move the mount, the rider is also moved. If the rider is moved, it is dismounted.

7) no, see 6

8) attacker's choice

5) who has it?

Post this kind of rules questions in the Skirmish forum the next time, more people visit there.

Post this kind of rules questions in the Skirmish forum the next time, more people visit there.
Correction:
More people who are focusing on skirmish visit there more often.  There is some truth to this, as I don't skirmish, so I don't visit the skirmish section, but when I see questions like this, I am not the best one to answer them.   The more correct way of saying it is that more skirmishers visit the skirmish section.

Focus people. There's a legitimate topic here. From the Errata and Clarifications document...

Dave
--------------------------------------------------------------

Mounts:
The Mount ability specifies a keyword, such as Dwarf, Orc, or Human, which permits a creature with that keyword to become its rider. While mounted, both rider and mount are considered to occupy the mount’s entire space, and are adjacent to one another, but do not provide cover for one another.
The mount and rider are separate creatures which move together. If movement would provoke an opportunity attack, the attacker would need to choose either the rider or the mount for the target of the opportunity attack unless the attacker can make more than one opportunity attack during a creature’s turn. A mount and rider activate separately.

Mount: On a mount’s turn, it is able to move and attack normally. Effects that move, shift, or change position of the mount also change the position of the rider. While the mount is moving, you ignore limitations to the rider's movement, such as those caused by Visejaw, Fear’s Dark Shadow, or standard conditions such as staggered, slowed, stunned or helpless. If the mount has Flight, the rider also benefits from Flight while the mount is moving. Other abilities of the mount do not benefit the rider unless specified.
If the mount is eliminated, the rider is placed on the map in the space formerly occupied by the mount. If the mount’s former space is not a legal position, place the rider in the nearest legal position. When the mount charges, if an ability or effect allows the rider to make an attack as part of the mount's charge, the rider also receives a +1 attack bonus to that attack against the target of the charge.

Rider: While mounted, a rider cannot move on its own but can otherwise act normally. It is still subject to effects that push, pull, or otherwise transport it. Effects which move, shift, or change position of the rider do not change the position of the mount. While mounted, a creature’s Speed is 0.

Mounting: To become a rider, a creature adjacent to a mount is removed as a move action that provokes opportunity attacks. During setup at the start of a game, a player may elect to have a rider already mounted.

Dismounting: To dismount, on its turn a rider can be placed adjacent to the mount in any legal position as a move action.

Forced Dismounts: A mounted unit must always consist of an allied mount and its appropriate rider. If the rider and mount are controlled by different players, even temporarily, dismount the rider (the mount rejects the rider; place in a legal adjacent space). Similarly, if an inappropriate rider is somehow transposed with a mount’s rider (a non-Dwarf on a thunder tusk, for example), that creature is also automatically dismounted. A rider subjected to an attack, ability or special power that pushes, pulls or slides is dismounted. The rider is considered to occupy the entire space of the mount – so pushing the rider one space would place it in a space adjacent to the mount. Place effects, such as Abduct or Baleful Transposition, could also be used to dismount a rider. Forced dismounts do not provoke opportunity attacks.

Okay, so it has been a few years since I played DDM on a regular basis and I'm still learning the 2.0 rules. I see the tactical advantage of a mounted mini having the range 16 and then activating, especially with the new diagonal movement rules and spell targeting - huge advantage.

I have a question about the Warhorse Special Power.

It Reads - Charger: When this creature is charging, its rider has +10 Damage until end of turn and can make 1 (basic attack) against target of charge.

Is this in place of the Warhorse's attack, or its own attack, or is it in addition to these?

I can see if Wulfgar received an additional attack, and +10 Damage on both, how that could be huge, but I want to make sure I am reading this correctly.

First, the mount rules may change again within a couple weeks, so, hold on to your hat.

Wulfgar gets +10 Damage on his attack on that charge. This is why people are playing Wulfgar on a Warhorse.

Assume the game has already gone a round or so, and it's not the first activation...

1) Warhorse charges.
1a) Warhorse attacks at +14 (15).
1b) Wulfgar attacks at +20 (40).
2) Wulfgar activates, attacks at +19 (30).

It's not easy to stand up to 85 damage. And, if there's an Eternal Blade in the band, and Wulfgar is boosted, that's perhaps 20 more damage.

And, that's not the only trick up your sleeve.

1) Warhorse charges
1a) Warhorse hits for 15
1b) Wulfgar hits and kills target.
2) Wulfgar dismounts from Warhorse
3) Wulfgar charges another target.

why does wulfgar get an extra att? I see no where that it says a rider may make a free att when his mount charges....

Check the text on the Warhorse's card...

This is not something that mounts get, it's something that the Warhorse in particular can do.

Okay, even more powerful than I thought.  I have a question about your first list, where Wulfgar activates and attacks at +19 (30).  The Warhorse reads: Charger: When this creature is charging, its rider has +10 Damage until end of turn and can make 1 (basic attack) against target of charge.  Why wouldn't Wulfgar get the extra +10 on this attack?  It says until of turn, is that the Warhorse's turn/activation only?

Looks like some of this will change with the new errata to the mount rules posted on Wizards site.
