This does make a good bit of sense. It's obvious that WotC has been listening to their customers by providing a mounted mini every set. I may not be as happy about a unique mounted character, but that's another argument entirely.

I can't say I'd be annoyed if we got swarms for a few sets, although a swarm in WotDQ would be harder to get several from. Higher price and few boosters per case will affect supply in certain circumstances. The largest gripe against them is based on the fact RPG players can't adapt them and mould them to a given situation. While annoying, it isn't an insurmoutable obstacle -- that's why we also need proxies of the small/medium variety. [)]

The mounteds aren't quite the same (as I look at them). So far, we have a human mounted on a horse, a halfling on a dog, a elf (Drow) on some sort of sauropod, and a gobbo on an overgrown wolf. None of those can really be reasonably substituted as another one (although if you've got extra Halfling Outriders, I suppose you could use them as Goblin Worg Riders as they both represent small humanoid figures on canines).

But, when we look at a swarm of spiders, vs. centipedes, vs. scarab beetles, vs. etc. we notice something--they're all big bases covered in bugs.

I don't remember if rats or other vertebrates are covered in swarms or not, so I'm not talking about them one way or another.

Don't get me wrong, I fully expect to see the swarms detailed (and relatively soon). But I think WotC have other fish to fry first. I know there are things I would rather see put out before another swarm, only time will tell whether or not WotC agrees with or not.

Usually they don't. [:(]

I'm not sure if I agree with the last 2 posts. I seem to recall more than a few posts requesting swarms over the past few years. Specifically, I remember a few threads asking for rat swarms, centipede swarms, bat swarms, elementite swarms, hellwasp swarms and snake swarms (in addition to spider swarms). In addition, I have always liked the idea of cat and monkey swarms. The idea of mounted figures has certasinly been more popular than the idea of swarms, but both have had sufficient demand to have multiple figures devoted to the concept. Accordngly, I would not be surprised to see them make a few appearences in the next few sets.

Regardlless, I will not be using WotC swarms for RPG. They just don't meet my needs, as swarms need to be alterable, and often need to fill squares occupied by other creatures. Accordingly, I'm still going to be using cut up 2" square pictures of the appropriate type of swarms ...

If everyone thought like I did the world would be a VERY, VERY SCARY place indeed! [}:)]

Still, I DO look forward to new swarms, and I'm anxious for certain fliers, too (Stirge being number one!). There are just a few things I would rather see first (except the Stirge--I want that one as soon as it's feasible to do so).

To make things easier for the RPGer, I wonder if it's realistic for WotC to design a four-part Uncommon mini. Just keep the design relatively flat and you can set other minis on top of it. The four small bases allow for it to be in four different squares at the same time. Just add a new rule in Skirmish (Cohesive: Each part of this four piece creature must be in base-to-base contact with at least one other piece of this miniature before initiative is rolled or it is destroyed).

Hmm--Probably not, but it's a thought.

The big blur might be a mini...

The smaller blur I think is a mini as well...

Good eyes guys.....I can't make out much of nothing....GRIN

I could use another swarm. I thought the spider swarms as UC were just great. I'm the proud owner of 8 and these suckers sure scare folks......Rat swarm might be a good mini...

Cheers !!
