| I've shipped over a hundred packages via USPS and there's always one guy at any Post Office I use that has to be super anal about shipping. When they tell me I can't ship a package for whatever reason, I can never get a clear answer as to why. Here's a couple incidents that I thought were pretty amusing:
1. Someone will ship me minis using a small baseball card box. I will peel the old shipping labels off of it and use the box to ship minis to someone else. More than once I've had the anal guy refuse to ship it because "it's too small". He says I can buy an envelope and put it in that to make the package size bigger. One time, I shipped 2 of the same sized boxes at the same time. He shipped the first one but denied the 2nd one. He said it was too small. I told him it's the same exact box as the other one. I guess it was folded together a little tighter and was just a hairline shorter than the other box. If any of the other postmen there take my packages, I never have any hassles.
2. I shipped a book via media mail. It was thin but also wrapped with thin bubble wrap and stuck in a yellow envelope. The anal guy wouldn't put a Delivery Confirmation on it unless I shipped Priority mail because he said it was too thin. I've shipped lots of thin packages before with Confirmation #'s. When I asked why the thickness has anything to do with buying the Con. # he said because they can't scan it. They can scan it if I ship Priority but they have a hard time scanning it if it's via Media Mail? That doesn't make much sense, but I don't work there so I don't know routine. Again, one of the other postmen would have just shipped it with no hassles. [:p]

| Yeah.
The local post office went anal about shipping the inverted priority boxes (brown cardboard facing out), and the "boxes" made up of two booster halves cut in half and spliced together (or even 1 booster, now). | | Trade & talk in real time on IRC! | It's actually two different guys at 2 different post offices. There was recently a women who went postal just last week I think it was. I don't remember which state that happened in but she killed several employees. She was known to talk to herself in the parking lot.
I don't say a word to these anal guys. I want to stay on their good side just in case I walk in at a bad time. Then again, he might shoot at me also if my boxes are too short, so I'm probably screwed no matter what. | | Miniatures for sale *more added 07/17/08*: Click here I will buy your unwanted D&D WotC minis collection (DDM only). | Next time bring to his attention the inconsistency of his refusals in comparison to his co-workers and the regulations. Tell him that you find his constant denial of service a hassle and borderline discriminatory and that you would very much like to talk to the Post Master.
This is a government job and with plenty of applicants in wait...words like discriminatory, hassle and denial of service on something that is clearly within regulations should prompt him to step da **** back.
The P.O. cannot afford to loose any business due to anal/moody employees. I have a very low tolerance for postal employees...in my town they are super friendly and super accommodating to the patrons, as it should be...In other towns I've had the occasional dumbs*** in a bad mood trying to hassle and every time after I say "...I would like to speak with the Post Master" things turn swiftly in my favor.

HAHA, I'll stick them in a refrigerator box too! Then I'll tape it up with the thin scotch tape and ask him if this box is too small to get a DelCon #. Then just before I walk out the door, I will turn around and yell out, "...and YES, there IS something liquid, hazardous, & flammable in that package...tah hee hee!"
Just once I would like to say, "For the 100th time, no, I do not want to buy stamps. If I wanted stamps, I would have asked you or I would walk over to that machine that's 5ft from us and buy some". ROTFLMAO! You forgot perishable. [:p]
I've never had any problems with the size boxes you mention. I go to the states main branch of the USPS, so I'd be surprised if they weren't following regulations. BTW, the Providence PO was the first automated PO in the world.
Now it's the most outdated PO in the world. [:D]

| A similar thing happens here, butn it is the entire Canadian Postal Service that is messed up. Americans can send me minis in a booster box, but I cannot, it is not the proper shape. I NEED to use a box, and at least I save them, otherwise I would have to shell out 2.39$ more to have one of their "regulation boxes".
If that was not anal enough, I can send a booster inside Canada...Where is the sense in all this ??? | | Please donate BLOOD at http://www.monstersgame.co.uk/ac=vid&vid=11018554 Champion Of Kaz the Minotaur Knight of ALL Draconians. | | Thankfully, my PO has no problems with reused boxes. However, I do strip off all the labels that tend to build up on them (hint, hint, guys [:P]). | The post office where I ship from (down in Murray, for the guys in SLC) has an automated unit that never gives me any hassle. [:)]
I just put the package on, swipe my card and I'm out the door. Funny thing about this is, there is always a line of 10+ people waiting to do the same thing, but want to talk to a live person. It's the best kept secret around there.

| | Since we live in a pretty rural area, we have our pick of post offices (they are like DD here). We have one we usually use that is pretty good about shipping anything with DC regular mail (first class). If I am closer to another one, I stop there (but need to stop doing it) as they will only allow me to get DC if I ship Priorirty (which ends up being $4.90 as opposed to $1.15). Same packages, same stuff, just different PO. | | "Today is gone. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one. Every day, from here to there, funny things are everywhere." Dr. Seuss | |

Despite the fact that this might be breaing federal law, you can wrap those inverted boxes in brown paper bags from the local grocery store, and no one will be the wiser.
