| Without a leak, the name becomes known when the catalog for that set goes out to retailers.
Wardrums (or the March set) came out late July for both 2004 and 2005.
Underdark was unusually early because of the Advisory Panel.
The catalog for Sept-Dec tends to come out late March. The catalog for May-August in late November - Dec. And the Jan-April catalog in late July.
Although the fall set is just as likely to come out at the GAMA trade show when companies show off their fall/aka Christmas line-up.
"The 2006 GAMA Trade Show takes place March 13-16 at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada."
Some of Giants of Legend and the Fell Menace (original name for Aberrations) were leaked at GAMA TS 2004.
Last year not much because Underdark was leaked tres early and no figs for Angelfire were shown (I think Star Wars was the big item).
We might get the name at GAMA but the showcase pieces will likely be from Champions of the Force and WotDQ - huges plus the Icons dragons. | | Called Shot: Against the Giants -- Aboleth Called Shot: Demonweb - Large Whip Spider Another Champion of the Aboleth

| Set names is though, but Themes are fun to speculate on... I still think we are going to see an "Elements" set. More elementals, and monsters out of the various Elements books...

| My vote will be for another dragon-themed set given that 06 is supposed to be the year of the dragon (for D&D anyway) or something like that.
Still, I'd like to see more outsiders, some elementals, and, for crying out loud, humanoids with different-than-usual weapons. C'mon, how hard is it to make a dwarf with a spear, or some human paladin types with warhammers?

| For those going to Winter Fantasy:
Make sure you attend the WotC D&D meeting just before the gaming starts on Thursday. The folks at WotC usually give a big presentation about last year's products, and we get a first look at some of the later 2006 products. Last year, we got the first info on some fall/winter releases for 2005.
I would not be surprised if they announce the name of the next set at this show. Winter Fantasy is WotC's D&D show - meaning it's specifically designed to showcase Dungeons and Dragons (as well as DDM). | | Living Greyhawk Circle Iuz's Border States DDM/SWM Organizer

"Elements", now that sounds like a good idea. Apart from the many elementals and their subtypes, it could also include some kind of an elementalist spellcaster like the one in the MHB. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades.

I agree with this last sentiment. We don't even necessarily need out-of-the-box thinking here. But, there are a lot of different weapons and poses available to the designers, and a little more variety would be appreciated. I was happy when they finally came out with the Spirit Folk Fighter, but I am waiting for a Spirit Folk Sorcerer - at this rate, it will be many years before I see it. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades.

I wholeheartedly agree. I'd really like to see more of the exotic races that have been comming out lately. Illumians are on that I would like, but I'm not sure how they would pull off the floating runes without a poor sculpt.

| Well, if they do an outsider-themed, which seems more logical than an aquatic one, I think it could be largely oriental, with the outsiders from the outerworld and Varanas, Spirit-Folks, Nezumis, Koruborus and Hengeyokais as well as some of the Races of Stone, Dragon, Wild and Destiny and of course, more dragons [)] | | Please donate BLOOD at http://www.monstersgame.co.uk/ac=vid&vid=11018554 Champion Of Kaz the Minotaur Knight of ALL Draconians. | | I'm guessing a summoning theme: summoners, lesser summoned creatures, familiars (once they figure out to work them out for skirmish), and a couple of big evil devil types. My second guess would be a nature theme (druids, fey, dark woodsy types). Will the third set of 2006 be a 100 pt. set? | | Champion of Aspect of Juiblex (with Oozemaster) and Aspect of Skurmsh! | |

I had exactly the same idea, maybe they will do an 8-set cycle. With war drums we have the new starter set with all the classic minis, then we'll get WotDQ (as dragoneye), so logically the next set would have a fiend theme. And that would be great : bring on the marilith, arcanadaemon, nupperibo, succubus, aspects of Asmodeus and Grazzt ! However the march 2007 set could not be giant-oriented because it would be another huge set following WotDQ too closely... Too bad, we need uncommon fire and frost giants (me, at least [:D]). And a fey/woodland creatures set would be cool too. | I think it likely we'll be seeing a huge set once a year from here on out.
GoL was an experiment, and once WotC saw the sales figures, they did authorize more huges. It's the long production cycle that kept them from coming out for two years. I'm sure the next huge set is going into early developement right around now.

This is the only reason I liked the four-releases-a-year schedule that we previously had. It spaced out the Huge set (even if the drain on the wallet was unsustainable for the rest of the sets). And I'm not advocating going back to four releases a year--I can't afford it.
Hopefully, WotC will still keep the every fourth set a huge. We'd get three Huge sets in four years--and that would help things out for me (and probably other cash-strapped addicts). The only problem with that schedule is the eventual Huge/Starter crossover.
