| | I have a question; I would like to run some demos of D&D Skirmish to get new people interested to play. I have a 4X4 Table to use. I also have tons of Dwarven Forge dungeon terrain to use, easily enough to cover an 8X4 table. The questions is should I use the dwarven forge stuff or use a skirmish map? Yeah I can get some people oooh'ing and ahhhing over the dungeon terrain, but it will be the maps that they will end up using, so should I demo on the maps? | | DDM Singles/Cases FS at: www.battleworks.net

| IMHO I would just to the maps, especially if its their first time. You want them paying attention to the rules and not the terrain. You could always add in the terrain later. You know to keep em hooked.

| | When they sit down to play, they are going to be using maps. Demos should generally not contain house rules or alternative ways of playing. That kind of stuff can be added later. | | | |

| The maps are impressive without adding terrain. I say use the maps for demos. And use roughly 50 pt warbands. Here are two warbands I like to use for demos. I let the other person choose which band they want to play and I try my best to let them win. If more than one person wants to demo, I let two play while I explain the rules.

| I would use the maps and only demonstrate a kill 'em all scenario. Forget the assault rules. There is enough to absorb that they don't need assault added in. Use 50-100 point warbands to KISS (keep it simple stupid).
On another note, you might just wait for War Drums, they are supposed to have a quick start demo with a battle between the orc mauler and the elf whatever on a small battlefield to get folks into the game fast.

| | If you really want to run them, that's cool, but If you want to have a WoTC delegate run them there are some of us here on the boards who could see if there is one in your area and we give out minis at all our demos. Let us know where you are located and if you want we can try to find you a delegate. | | Life is like a dogsled team, unless you are the lead dog, the view never changes.

We did have a WOC guy come by once, but I haven't seen hide nor hair of him for months now.
Thanks for the suggestions, I may wait for Wardrums to come out and use their demo with the new rules.
I guess I can use the 3D Terrain for some Role Play Demo's as it's just a shame not to put it to good use. | | DDM Singles/Cases FS at: www.battleworks.net

| My feelings on the matter...
don't demo one game with components from another game.
Just doesn't seem right. | | Greyhaze's DDM Spoilers Champion of a Medium Dog & then a Darkenbeast , Raistlin Majere, Nightmare WDQ25/60, Warduke WD60/60, Anti-Champion of Guns, "Knight of Bugbears", and Joke Champion of Venger. Called Shots: Frost Giant in Demon Web, Darkenbeast in Feywild.

| | I would definately demo on the maps instead of DF stuff.. but perhaps have the DF stuff on the board in the corners or something for the appearances.. it would be easier if it was made by WotC. | | Minis... | | Yeah, maybe if you were demoing RPG, the terrain would be cool, but if it's skirmish, I'd go for maps. | | | |

| | Echoing above sentiments: Only demo the product you're demoing. Don't use terrain to demo DDM skirmishes. Stick with the maps. | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. | | The problem with demo'ing with terrain added is that leads people to think that they have to invest in the 3D stuff to play. It's cool, but the KISS principle is the best way to go. | | Any time you try to make something idiot-proof, someone always goes out and invents a better idiot. Champion of Siege Equipment | |
