| According to the latest WotC update, War of the Dragon Queen will feature "varying degrees of rarity to enhance collectability".
Does this mean the set will have Very Rares, ala Star Wars? Or does it mean something different?

I hope not.
Hopefully just means the huge in each booster will be varying ie uncommon/rare. | | "Mutton yesterday, mutton today, and blimey, if it don't look like mutton again tomorrer." | If the Aspects of Tiamat and Bahamut(yeah yeah I know, not confirmed yet) are Very Rares, I won't be that upset -- they're not nearly as useful as many other Huges. BUT, if the rumored Hydra is Very Rare, then it's on. It is on indeed.
Personally, I would hope that the set could be structured so that the 6 Huge Rares are simply part of the normal 24 Rares, and when you get a Huge Rare in a pack, they alter one of the uncommon slots that would normally give you one of the 6 Huge Uncommons to give you a normal uncommon. That's how I'd set it up. | | Champion of the Aboleth, Prophet of Denizens. BW Called Shot: Babau, UH Called Shot: Aspect of Vecna

God, I hope not. The inclusion of very rares would cause my very heart to stop beating. Seriously, I hate this idea, as it just screws over RPGers.
I concur. If DDM switches to a chase rare type mentality you can forget new people coming in from the RPG angle. At least I wouldn't get into DDM. Maybe I am wrong about this and seeing it from a very tiny world.
I mean right now if a person gets three cases of a new set they have a really good chance of getting a spread of 12/6/1 of each "rarity" or at least I have this occur in the last three sets. Now I know there is going to be some variances and things don't always work out this way. But this seems like a pretty good system and I have been really happy with it thus far.
As to a change of rarity to affect some rares becoming "more" rare. In a way we have had that for a while. In reference to the mounted paly or the shuagin ranger (I know this is stated an UC but at the time it was pretty rare) compared to other rares or precieved rares like the skullsplitter.
TIme will tell but I agree that a change in the rarity would hamstring the RPG side of life. At least I "think" it would....

| | Perhaps there will be common/uncommon/rare huges. 3 common, 2 uncommon and 1 rare per case of 6 boosters for instance. This might be a better solution than what GoL had. It also might explain the "varying" rarity, as the booster contents will not be able to be defined in a quick blurb. | | Greyhaze's DDM Spoilers Champion of a Medium Dog & then a Darkenbeast , Raistlin Majere, Nightmare WDQ25/60, Warduke WD60/60, Anti-Champion of Guns, "Knight of Bugbears", and Joke Champion of Venger. If I were to comment on this, I'd say you guys have nothing to worry about.
We mentioned at Gen Con that if we did Huges again, we'd do distribution differently. That hasn't changed. or did change. or something. It's different.
How different? Can't say just yet. maybe next week, maybe April. You'll have plenty of time to make an informed decision.

| Can we put this down to one of those storms in a teacup? I'm glad Shoe came through with the unspoken clarification. | Almost everytime a new set comes out someone sees a hint of something somewhere that makes them think ultra rares are going to start.
I don't know anything about the star wars minis but they appear to have made some of the players very paranoid with reguards to ultrarare chase minis.
I am glad DDM isn't doing this.

| I am pretty curious about the distribution on this one.
60 figs, 12 of them huge and only 8 per box...the computations are going on like crazy in my head... how many uncommons, are there rares, large, commmons, huge uncommons buzz....boom. Naw. While there might be reason to keep informed, there's no need for any tar or feathers just yet.
Hmmm. A three tiered Huge rarity scheme? 3 Rares, 3 Uncommons, and 6 Commons? 2-4-6?
