| Hey, all.
I've had an idea for a map for a while that I've been longing to share. I doubt it'll happen, though I think it would be doable.
Imagine a map depicting two ships side by side, with rigging and planks linking the two. Victory areas would be the forecastle and helm of the opposing ships. Exit squares would be the ocean -- conceptually those panicking will be leaping overboard.
I'm just thinking that after a while, the dungeons, caverns, battlefields and castle/manor maps will be played out. What other wild settings would be good sites for skirmish play? | | Trade List: http://www.maxminis.com/hwlist.asp?user=Stalwart

| Yikes. I'm a fairly consistent lurker on these boards, and don't recall seeing any posts about future map ideas.
Still, glad to see that other people agree that some ship-to-ship combat would be nice. | | Trade List: http://www.maxminis.com/hwlist.asp?user=Stalwart

| Vry has a fairly good one of ship-to-ship battle on his site. http://www.magist.com/ddm/ I may do one of my own in the future at some point but the drawing of the ship decks has put me off of the idea for the moment.

| Well I use bits of Dundjinni and lots of Photoshop. You'd have to ask Vry what he uses. I'd assume some of the same but don't know for sure.

| How about Desert where the sand is a problem for Mounted Minis. Almost everything would be difficult and Flying would be at a premium.
Also a Castle entrance with half the map being plains, maybe a moat or something in the middle.
Lastly a cliff edge or Ocean shore. One edge of the map would be a chasm and the exits would be in the bottom center along the one path leading to a village. | | Never teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of time and it annoys the pig.

| | Yea it would be great to see a lot of variety. 2 ships side-by-side is a great concept. I'm also looking forward to things like forests, deserts, jungles, etc. I'm all for variety, and a bunch of outdoor maps would be great. | | Champion of a Knight of Takhisis/Knight of Neraka | |

| I was thinking of a jungle setting with cover from foliage, dirt paths, high ground and a mud slide. You take 5 damage, but it get you to a victory area and in LOS of the enemy start point immediately. Kind of favours one side, but makes winning terrain initiative important.
Very cool maps btw robb. ΖD] | | Greyhaze's DDM Spoilers Champion of a Medium Dog & then a Darkenbeast , Raistlin Majere, Nightmare WDQ25/60, Warduke WD60/60, Anti-Champion of Guns, "Knight of Bugbears", and Joke Champion of Venger. Called Shots: Frost Giant in Dangerous Delves.

Escher did it The highly geometric plane of order The Demonweb pits The River Styx The map of Faerun miniturized with cities like Waterdeep, Thay, or Calisham as victory areas The gnome village cause I likes my knomes The kobold warrens The 4 river maps that connect together with rapids and waterfalls and the goal is for one team to make it down the river with opposing teams trying to stop them. The Valley The Box Canyon The garden maze or labyrinth

| | Stalwart, if implemented correctly, I think your idea will fly. Eventually, if the game keeps going, Wizards will have no choice but to implement more offbeat ideas in order to keep the game interesting. A nice alternative would be to have offbeat maps released in Dragon magazine or in the monthly prize kits, and not have them tournament legal if there are balance issues - the maps could have specific scenarios where only certain minis are legal. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

| Going for a simple but useful design in saying a simple city street with alleys and maybe a few side streets coming in. How many of us have rpg sessions running afoul on the street (daytime or night). Good map maybe to favor more 'city' friendly pieces skirmish wise - guards/city watch/thugs etc.
A forrested campsite alongside a road or trail would be another neat option. A goblin or kobold warren would be another. Probably lots of frowns hearing it but I'd love to see a map with either a dead magic or wild magic area(s). I like the above nod to a Plane of Shadows map as well. | | You see! | Here's another idea -- would especially work well on the ship map, but could go on any battlefield or castle siege map.
A terrain feature that represents a ballista, or perhaps a catapult so it won't take thunder away from the Arcane Ballista.
Give it the rules: A figure (might want to put a requirement, like humanoid, or with "soldier", "captain", "warrior" or "guard" in their title) on this square gains Ranged attack +10 (20) or something similar. I wouldn't make it a victory area, since basing the figure stops the ranged attack.
I think that new terrain features are a must. Any more ideas?

Of course you're aware that I have two city maps already and have plans to make 7 more that fit together into one giant city? If not then check them out.
