Well, I understand why folks might WANT them, but I can't exactly say that I understand having that many NOW (except as a means of furthering one's collection later--but even then I'm stretching the limits of my understanding).
I fully expect that by the time we're going on set 20 (or so) that I will have that many. But that's years off, and I'll burn that bridge while I'm on it. No point in worrying about it now (for me anyway). | |

so if you combine my friends LE, my uncle's CE and all the CG we have sold it is a bit higher but prolly still under or around 500 | |

Well Ack, it is actually all part of my "business plan" for collecting the hobby. I noted how some friends of mine who got into MtG real heavy were able to basically finance their whole hobby off early buys and trades to the point where they almost had their entire collection for free (discounted their time spent on it of course.) Well that is partly what I am doing. I would wager that my net outlay for all my minis is probably less than quite a few people. I have traded and sold off thousands and thousands of minis. I have the room and inclination, and by having enough, it allows one to treat them as commodities and not as extra special personal items, at least the extras that is. | |

| Are we talking strictly D&D Miniatures, then I just broke 3000.
If we are talking older fantasy pewter, older fantasy metal, Chainmail, plastic D&D Miniatures, Star Wars, HeroClix, Mage Knight, and rebased and created miniatures then I am probably way above 10,000. | |

| My database clocks me in at a grand total of 8,214, pretty evenly spaced across all the sets. On interesting side.. the largest number of any one fig I have is the Zhentarim fighter at 52 (mind you, I gathered this many for a special D&D session I was running) and I have no fewer than 2 of any miniature. After just updating my database.. the most surprising fact was that the rare that I have the most of is the Drow Cleric of Lolth.. clocking in at 8... go figure.

please please tell me what are you guys doing with more than 3000 minis?
I have 2300 minis now and I feel it`s a great number for all kinds of encounters.
However I have a hard time to field a good encounter for my players with a lot of minis. The monsters are either too weak and don`t make sense as they can`t even hit the players even when they come in large amounts. Or the critters would be so tough that they would wipe the party.
So why have more than 3000 minis? | |

| mine is 2566.
but its easy to have a high collection with 100's of commons and uncommons, maybe we should do a count of rares by set.
those are the ones that matter.
I have around 500 rares, from all sets.
lowest being 42 rares from archfiends to 71 rares from Giants of legend | |
