| | Well, I'm glad we got a preview, but I gotta say, not too excited about any of these three minis. Tiamat's red dragon head looks weird. But then I was never that excited about an Aspect of Tiamat. There are so many huge minis I really want and have been waiting for so long! It hurts for Tiamat to take one of the twelve spots. But I guess as long as many people really want Tiamat, maybe I can trade her away for other hard to get rare huge minis. As for Meepo, I can use a different kobold sculpt, but would rather not have it in a rare slot. The flying kobold could have its uses, though it's not something I particularily needed (I don't own, and am not planning to buy Races of the Dragon). But still, I'm glad we got this preview out of the way, so we can get to see some huge minis that WILL get me excited (here's hoping for an aboleth and a couple of different huge chromatic dragons, a green and blue would be nice.) | | | |

| nice discalimer there, kinda like saying, seeing how you can't read the fine print on the box, let me write it out long hand.
Personally I think they are feeling the crunch on costs, so they really cut back in the painting department and it sounds like it's going to stay that way. I'm not surprised at it I won't be surprised if the blood wars set previews don't show the production mini's instead of paint masters. I'm guessing they already had the masters pictures taken for this set and didn't want to have to try to get a hold of the production ones for pictures. | | Hello Boys, I'm Back Vindicated Champion of the Bat (not pretty, but it still counts)

Sounds like a GELATINOUS CUBE quality.
I like the two Kobolds. Meepo's sculpt looks very nice, and the Dragonwrought Kobold should be a lot of fun. It's also perfect for something I had in mind for my campaign!
Not that impressed with Tiamat, but I guess its as good as we could expect from such a complicated figure.
I love Kobolds and all, but I kinda hope one of the three figure's who's name contains "Kobold" is something like "Kobold Eating Ogre," or "Bob the Kobold Hunter." | | Champion of the Revenant Knight of the Elf Duskblade Complete Trades: Oni, Kidkach, Melrune, callidusx3

| I like those minis!
Tiamat looks great. Really big and colorful. I hope she's a powerful skirmish piece so that we see a lot of her.
Meepo I have the least use for in the RPG, as I'm sure I could use a Kobold Champ for the few times I try out the cliched "tough kobolds" encounter. However, he seems like a good candidate for cool dragon-related skirmish abilities, so I won't cry too hard when I pull him as a rare. The first time.
The Dragonwrought Kobold's cool by me. How many uncommons are there in this set though? Will I end up with too many of these guys? Oh well, he's as necessary as the flameskull or even the half-orc paladin. It'll be cool to have a few. | | Champion of the Rakshasa. The only thing is that one of the devs has posted the coolest and/or most anticipated clear plastic will show up in Blood War.
I interpreted the "Large bases that entirely fill their 4x4 square" to A) be a typo that should have read 2x2 and B) mean that the large and huge bases may be square with rounded corners.

| I could care less about the Meepo, being Meepo. I understand that many of you out there are a fanboy of him, but I really don't need a rare small mini that will take away from others. I hope some of you will trade for my multiples when I get them! The sculpt is fairly good, but my kobold champion did fine for an armored kobold.
The Aspect is ok I guess. I am sure I will be happy to pull one, but how often am I ever going to use this mini (RPG). It will probably sit in my box and every once in a while when I am looking for a Treant from my huges I will look at it with excitement for its beauty (I hope). Please give us an ABOLETH!!
I actually think the flying kobold is the best of the pack. I like it very much and will search out a bunch of these. Could make for some interesting mutated colony of kobolds! | | Give me more MIND FLAYERS!

We already knew they wouldnt look the same. We had a problem because the quality was so lacking. So basically all the disclaimer said was: expect less. Not very heartening, at least to me it isnt.
Me, either. Sounds like more spin. Read: "I know some of you weren't happy about the paint jobs in the last set. Well, sod off - they ain't getting better (and they might get worse), but so that we have something to point to when you complain next time, here's a disclaimer. Have a nice day."
I don't care how cool the previews are. I'm not preordering this set at all. I want to see how bad they hose the paint jobs before I plunk down money on this one. That disclaimer just confirmed for me that the paint job problems weren't a mistake, they were on purpose - and they're not going away.

| Well. Ummm, Wow...Here's my takes on bits and pieces throughout the preview.
"The Disclaimer": Weak. Just weak. We KNOW that minis won't look EXACTLY like the masters. We KNOW that there will often be SUBSTANTIAL differences between the master and production unit. But missing paint steps? Chimeras, Frost Dwarves, Large Bronze Dragons. I ain't saying any more 'bout it.
Three minis with "Kobold" in the title: Please let one be a Zombie or Skeletal version. Four of anything not central to the theme (I don't buy the bit about Kobolds being related to Dragons--If they were, they'd have the subtype "Dragon") is not what I like to hear. I wouldn't want four Werewolves or Duergar in a single set! But that's really a minor quibble. Hopefully, we won't be getting another four Orcs or Drow in the set as well.
Clear plastic: G-Cube is the obvious guess. I'm hoping it's the correct guess, and Rare (or at least Uncommon).
Full size Large bases: Cool, although base size only bothers me when there is a large amount of "spill" over the edge. Otherwise I have ZERO issue with the 40mm round base--especially since it's easy for me to customize anything I need with those discs from the craft store.
Another Tiny: That works for me. Although it won't be the Stirge, so I'm guessing it'll be a Psuedo-dragon. I'll wait until the Stirge can be done the way it needs to be done (as a common!).
Aspect of Tiamat: Im-*******-pressive. Getting two of her might be tough. I'm just hoping she's skirmish-worthy. The heads are a bit off (we've seen different final sculpts from the masters, too), but I don't doubt that she will be impressive.
Meepo: I dunno. I don't mind the Unique, I like the beefed-up kobold idea, the armor is a neat idea, I don't even mind the Small/Rare combination. But, something is nagging me about this one. Still, a hero-type Kobold isn't bad. Two will do.
Dragonwrought Kobold: I'm a little undecided about this one as well. RPG-wise, I guess it could stand for a Half-Dragon or Half-Fiend. Skirmish-wise, I think that there are some interesting possibilities. I think I'll go for my full 6 on this one. | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

| I love that. Tiamat's heads do seem a little jaunty (is that the right word?), but it's a great miniature all the same. A- Meepo is just cool. I think it's a great kobold, and, along with the Drawgonwrought and other 2 kobold we get, there may be a chance for us to make a reasonable competative theme band. A- The Dragonwrought, however, getsm my top vote. It's such a cool mini, and the fact that it's uncommon just sweetens the deal [:)]. Cannot wait to get a hold of a few of these puppies. | Nice very nice.
Meepo for all his fans out there is a great choice, not sure about this whole 'dragonlord' bit but I can ignore that part. Kobold with wings very cool Dragonwrought or sorcerer with the winged feat makes for a nice addition.
Tiamat! We all knew she would be coming but it's nice to see her right from the get go. She does suffer from the 'bigger then base' syndrome, which should make for some problems in miniture placement on the maps. But I'm ok with that. | Nice preview. I like all 3 minis.
From reading the comments here I see it's getting harder and harder for WotC to please the fans. So many of us are waiting for their personal favourite, and anything considered "fillers" simply annoys people. I know the paint jobs were poor in WD, and personally I'll not preorder anything until the final quality is known, but what's with all the complaining after the FIRST preview of a new set?

I was thinking the same thing (I also look forward to DQ and turn 29 in July).
Previews.....
Meepo: Meh. I'm even a Meepo fan but I really like the Kobold Soldier as Meepo (has just the right look to it). New and improved Meepo should make everyone who was clamoring for more powerful kobolds not long ago happy [:P]
Dragonwrought Kobold: Intriguing. It could sub as a Mephit (assuming Mephits don't start appearing soon) or several types of demon-esque critters. I can dig this.
Tiamat: Decent sculpt. Nice to have on rare occasions for RPG. I can already foresee at least 3-6 paint steps dropping off in production. Fortunately she'll be fun to repaint (but take forever). In a pinch she'll sub nicely for a 5-headed Hydra (assuming that one of the 12 Huge minis isn't a Hydra).
I imagine we'll likely see a Forest Giant and 6-Headed Hydra among the Huges. I'd be quite happy to see Greater Barghests among the Larges (also seems likely). Red Hand of Doom has about a dozen nifty minis I'd like to see included in DQ (ghost lions and greater barghests among others). I'll keep my fingers crossed.
I sincerely doubt we'll see the almighty Stirge in DQ. Blood War definitely sounds like a fitting place for the Stirge to appear [:D]
It would be too funny if one of the Huge minis turned out to be an uncommon Displacer Beast Pack Lord (there have been numerous requests for an uncommon displacer beast.....[:P]).
Overall nice preview (voluminous to say the least) and I look forward to seeing 1-2 new minis a week for the next couple of months.

| This preview did nothing for me. I don't care about winged kobolds, Meepo, or an evil dragon goddess thingie. The entire preview was Evil figures. I play CG/LG, so there was nothing in there at all for me to care about.
But they clearly pleased others. Darius seemed thrilled about the Aspect of Tiamat, and the Meepo fans also look delighted. I'll grudgingly concede that a winged kobold is interesting, even if it does nothing for me specifically.
The disclaimer was weak. We weren't complaining about not getting exact matches; it's the fact the ink-wash in War Drums was too dang dark on a lot of figures and paint steps were completely missing in some cases that set us off. Blatant PR spin wasn't really called for; the people complaining about the paint issues were responded to on these forums and, presumably, on the WotC boards as well. We know they know we've spoken about it.
Personally, the preview disappointed me. But since it's pleased so many others, I can't be mad over it. I just hope that CG gets some early love in the next preview. | | - Irrationally Fanatical Champion of Pegasus-mounted cavalry - Proud member of Team Low Tier Beasting: I play CG as my main faction! - Garland, TX 2006 Qualifier Champion My trading thread: http://www.maxminis.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=19725
