I'm very impressed with how the maxminis crew handled the leak. It's nice to be a part of a online community that has some conviction and morals. | | | |

That would have involved a trip to the lobby (to get at the wireless access... didn't work in the room) and having a bunch of MM people wanting to talk. | There was one year I found my Christmas presents, and after that initial feeling of "ha ha I know", I couldn't tell anyone and I had to then "act" surprised Christmas morning. I'll never do that again.
I haven't seen the pictures. I'm glad I haven't. I'm glad we will eventually see more official ones. I like that the Purple Worm is picture isn't even the whole mini - it still leaves us wanting more.
So Lidda and WOTC, do what you do. Do as you were going to do. If someone has seen it there response will only be a sour one (..awww, seen that already!)
I'll still check in every week and see what there is to see. It will all still be new. Until I have my 4 cases opened in front of me with my minis all in a neat row and stat cards freshly memorized - the "moment of discovery" thing is still the best part. (Aha! They did make a Dragon Wrought Kobold - Yippee!!!!)
On a side note, I think maybe the Giant Space Hamster huge mini should have a dragon template added if it going to fit into this whole "Year of the Dragon" thingy. Celestial Giant Gold Dragon Space Hamster Gnome Cavalry!!! So which of you will be the first to post a picture of that?

| The new plan:
Soon, maybe even this afternoon, we will post an image showing the leaked figures. An image. The speculation and ooh'ing and ahh'ing can then officially commence. We are also revising the preview schedule so that Shoe can discuss each fig sooner rather than later. We *still* plan to preview 80% of the set. [:)] We're unsure of the exclusives promised to each pub but we will work something out.
Cheers!

I wanna go home now and look at the old Monstrous Compendium entry and see all the weird variants of Giant Space Hamster there were. I think my favorite is still the Miniature Giant Space Hamster which was essentially just a normal hamster. | | Champion of the Beholder and Beholderkin

Anyone can feel free to drop by #maxminis at any time to see if there's anyone available to chat to. Stop by and lurk if you want to get used to it, first.
Back on topic:
Let's hope this event can fade into history as a dodgy moment in time. It's a nasty thing right now, but it's looking like the damage was minimal and the interest in WotDQ is higher than ever. Of course, this is the fan-side of things. I won't pretend to know what vendor contracts might have been fouled, but I really like the promise this set portends.

Yep, an EXCELLENT Plan WotC!
I talked to Shoe about just this very idea at WF. I commented to him about how much fun it was for the community to try to figure things out, and he absolutely agreed. In fact he said that they wanted to do something like that again, but that it wouldn't probably happen till Blood War.
I'm not sad to see the plan get moved up a set.

I'm hoping that the image will also confirm/deny that all of the images are from figures that made it into WotDQ.

| IMO, the damage control coming out of all of this makes for an interesting topic the next time I'm able to speak with one of the WOTC people. I'm curious as to how they came up with this particular plan, and what their options were. Purely from a business process standpoint. Perhaps if one of them makes an appearance at the UK webcast this weekend I'll have a chance to pop the question to them... | | Thanks for the memories. :) | |

I didn't see the leaked photo and wasn't really all that upset anyway (I skirmish more than RPG so Shoe's hints at special abilities are much more fun than just seeing a photo) but it will be fun to discuss the figures. | Posting the leaked images is probably the best spin control WOTC could do with this issue. Simply post the leaked images, rearrange the previews for this week (& next, etc...)to be those ones, put them out early (like you said, today), and viola - problem solved. If there was a leak on an image that was to be in a publication, just offer them something else a little sweeter. We minis fans get pictures of quality, WOTC gets publicity, somebody at WOTC gets fired, and a job opening is raffled off to whoever can design the best new huge mini (see below).
