I think you have a point. There are lots of appropriate templates, and I hope we get some unusual undead (an uncommon giant skeleton or zombie, a vampire template added to an interesting creature). But equally, I hope the set doesn't go template mad - I don't want a half-elemental half-vampire fiendish warforged two-weapon wielding necromancer (with extra levels in blackguard) mounted on a half-dragon half-camembert were-manticore zombie [)].

Could be called Gnomes takes Arabel and I'd still be pleased.
Addicts don't care about content, just need more, more I say.
Though Strahd and an anticipated Aspect of Vecna would give the set a perfect score so far.
Another Wraith (uncommon), Skeletal Ogre and Skeletal Troll would continue the perfect score.

Moradin was our first Aspect commander, and Epic Nerull was upgraded to commander status, so I'm guessing the more intelligent and calculating Gods will have commander aspects here on out (Bane's epic card will be a commander, too! You'll see!). Vecna seems likely to get that treatment.
The defensive casting comes from a blurb in the MHB that specifically calls out that Vecna's concentration check modifier is high enough that it always succeeds at casting defensively.
The high damage on the empowered MM comes from caster level 10. 5 bolts dealind 1d4 (average 2.5)+1 = 17.5 damage. 17.5 x 1.5(empower)=26.25, rounded down to 25. I'd fully expect that to get nerfed down to a paltry 15, though.
If it does do 25 at sight, I think it could be playable even if it's hp/cost ratio is at 1:1.

| I'm trying to think of possible chase rares, but aside from the very likely Vampiric Red Dragon, I'm having a lot of difficulty coming up with any. Aspect of Vecna and Strahd seem like shoe-ins, but since they're really just neat vamp and lich figs, I'm not sure how popular they'll be.
I am looking forward to some cross-promotion with the Ravenloft module, though.
And I still maintain that 'taintyest of the tainted' applies to yugoloths. ;) | |

Well, Shoe's "taintyist of the tainted" comment would seem to lean in that direction, since the Taint mechanic was a major focus in HoH. Personally, I'm all for it. Bring on the Dread Necromancer, Tainted Scholar, and Gray Jester! It would be a good set for an Abyssal Ravager, though. An extremely good set. A Demonic Gnoll Shaman/Adept (or Archer) would be welcomed as well.
I must confess that I'm a bit worried, though. I had high hopes for Deathknell and Undead goodness. Hopefully Unhallowed will be more to my preference. | |
