I think my minis are in way more danger from our pet rabbit, I caught her throwing around a dwarf skeleton that had ended up on the floor recently.

Ahhhh... so I see the training I gave Usagi while rabbit sitting has finally taken hold, although I was trying to train Usagi to go after the rares first...

My (live in) girlfriend is outstanding. She accepts my inner (and outer) geek in all its glory. I have three bookshelves in the living room that are crammed with thousands of minis. Even though she has no interest in DDM or D&D (yet?) she lets me keep them out in the open.

My cat has a tendency to roll out maps and sleep on them, and then scratch them as he flees in terror when I enter the room.

My GF doesnt care about DDM becuase she doesnt know. The DND stuff is in my brothers room, so if there are spare minis, its his fault!

My social circle isnt quite as accepting of DND, as expected, thats why i spend more time on Maxminis than i do actually playing...sigh

Girlfriend doesn't care 'bout minis or RPG. But she knows I am happy when gaming so she thinks its all good. No problem on the finance side either because I pay them from my own budget. I don't have many other hobbies, so the time is no real issue either.

You know, I did not get into minis that much until I split up with my then girlfriend. Infact, the wargaming is more gratifying. Maybe one day I'll meet a girl that shares my taste for simulated bloodlust. When I was dating she had a problem with my shooting hobbies (which is much more expensive). I'll stop shooting when they kill me and pry my gun from my still twitching trigger finger!

Haha Ive been considering it for a while, but the backlash from coming out for MtG made me quit the game...I guess that only proves my heart wasnt in it. I wonder if any of the MtG players or Minis players from my school are on the boards, theyll more likely resent me, but hey, they know something others dont. Bring it on "geeks" i need some practice! hahahaha

My fiancee, I'm happy to say, cheers me on in anything that interests me, and that includes DDM. Having said that, she is no gamer and she's a real smartass (thankfully), so she is not above making cracks about minis now and again.

Interestingly enough, she finds my interest in Maxminis.com much more amusing that my interest in actual minis. She has taken to using "Maxminis" as an adjective to describe geeks that she encounters, as in "the guy who runs the comic shop is awesome... he's totally Maxminis," or "this Maxminis guy came to our office today to fix the server."

She also refers to her own internet obsessions as "Maxminis." If I see her at the computer and ask what she's doing, she'll say "just checking Maxminis."

My Wife used to paint metal minis with me, but I can't seem to get her to give hardly a glance to any of the DDM I have collected. She seems to actively ignore my new addiction.

My wife is somewhatt understandable about minis. She is a gamer granted mostly white wolf stuff. She spends a lot of running her stuff. She is the president of a collage group that runs several LARPS in the local collages. And she is the Lead ST for one of them. So I think the time I spend playing DDM is fine becuase I let her spend the time she needs for this.

As to playing DDM she really does not show any signs that she wants to learn. But she does own one piece (unicorn) and she wants one the nightmares.

My wife and I each have our own, somewhat expensive hobbies. I collect little plastic figures and keep them reasonably organized in the basement office. She collects scrapbooking materials and keeps it in the wall unit we had to buy to store it properly.

She's probably spent more than I have, and it takes up more room, so there's not much jealousy there. What does create friction is the time (as many others have alluded to). Especially when I have to add on 4 hours driving to any tournament I attend; I'm gone for most of the day. For our upcoming holidays we had to sit down and figure out how much tournament time was reasonable. Ironically, the summer cabin is closer to the tournament scene then our house.

Once in a rare while I can get her to play a skirmish, but only if she's feeling really generous with her time. And the geek aspect? Shouldn't be a problem: even when we were still engaged, I'd pop over to her house to RPG with her dad and brother (and didn't worry if she was there or not!).

My wife very lovingly patronizes my "little men" habit...

after a while, I decided to get back at her and now I make her review the troops whenever a new trade comes in....

She dutifully picks up each one, gives a bit of critique and then grudgingly kisses me on the forehead...

She doesn't give me much grief about the expensive... I'm guessing about $1500 a year on these little bastards... We make good coin, and she pretty much gets whatever she wants so no real conflict.

She did however make me get another griffon cause she wanted one to put on her desk at work.... I'm thinking it was more Harry Potter related than DnD.

She does make fun of me every now and then in front of my friends over my little addiction, but most of my friends love them so no real harm done.

The (live-in) GF is pretty understanding. At first, I think she thought it was "cute" and she didn't much mind since I sold a BUNCH of White Wolf books to finance 75% of my initial investment in minis.

After a while, though, I'm pretty sure she started adding up the approx. costs because she became a LOT less supportive. But, since I've kept her informed of the current value of my collection, she's less upset and more back in line with the "isn't my geek cute?" thinking.

There's a T-Shirt I've seen advertised in Dragon that I'm thinking about getting her (it says "I [heart] my geek").

But the kids seem to be amused by my hobby (one is "watching over" a Unicorn and the other a Small White Dragon), so that buys me some leeway too. However, I think I'm going to have to play a couple rounds with them again SOON if I want to stay in good graces.

Still, things could be worse. I mean, before I changed the wallpaper on my dvd player it was a shot from Farscape (it's now Star Wars related), and she walked by and went "Oooh, Moya!" How can that be all bad?

My BF (dj-chuckles) is the one who got me into minis...and he's absolutely obsessed. But I think it's cute and I actually really admire that he's so passionate about something - makes me wish I could find something to be so passionate about. And I've always liked games but never really had anyone to play with, so that's awesome that I have a game buddy now. Plus he's taught me a ton of new games like Wench, Three Dragon Ante, DDM and D&D obviously, Gloom, Beer Money, Lunch Money, I Win, Set, Blink, etc. It's a good time. The only time it gets frustrating at all is when I start feeling like I'm less important than the games, which has happened a lot less recently. =)

And yes, he's got me going to the IL qualifier to play. I figured rather than spend 8 hours in the car sleeping/reading/whatever like I did last fall, now that I know how to play somewhat, I might as well attempt it!

Wow, you must love her a lot. My GF (fiancee actually) would not dare. This kind of intolerance towards one of our hobbies from the other would probably mean the beginning of the end of our relationship. If she would ask me to cut back on buying minis and RPG stuff, I wouldn't be that pissed. But if she would aks me to sell my collection? WTF! No way!

MY wife of more than 10 years grew up in Egypt. She at first had no understanding of games as a hobby. After about a year though she started painted some of my GW stuff. She allows me to play and collect as that is what I do. There are times when the tournements and games do get on her nerves. The money issue has never been that bad as I usually recycle games to play others. Sold my magic this year to buy more DDM all my GW is gone. My oldest Daughter is showing interests in the games and that helps out alot. Recently my wife has asked if she could actually play d&D RPG with the group. So I have little complaints.

oh just one. ( She likes to call the LE and CE ugly :)

My wife tolerates my interest in DDM, I tried unsuccessfully to get her interested in skirmish, since I figure this would be easier than trying to get her to understand RPG.
We set up a budget (which I would like to increase[:D])that as long as I stay within she makes no comments. Anyways she has the same budget for her interests.
Storage hasn't been a problem yet as my collection is modest, other than that as long as I monitor my time spent then things go fine.
It's not something that we would ever fight about, but it's nice when you can avoid the "wifely reminders"
I'm hoping to involve my daughters in it when there old enough.

Most of my girlfriends were very understanding of my hobby. Some of them even fancied the fact that I paint miniatures and thought it's very "artsy". I had, once, a case where a girlfriend asked for minis since they're pretty and after we broke up, it took a lot of courage to ask them back. Luckily she's been with me for a while so she understood I'm an addict. Since that unhappy occasion I tend to refuse to give minis to girls. Just thinking of an ugly break-up and losing a beholder makes me feel [xx(].

Likewise.

My worship of Black Dragons will need my full undivided attention for when the others come out from WotDQ and when I purchase the Gargantuan one as well. Too bad, though. I happen to have about a dozen or so friends who happen to be girls and they are quite okay with me and my "gaming buddies" and have a somewhat view of "look at our cute geeks" that was mentioned earlier on this thread. Then again, we're all in high school(grade 11) so that fact alone could be making them very lenient.[)]

Sounds like I'm one of the lucky ones. My wife (of 12 years) plays RPGs with my gaming group and occasionally paints her own minis, although she has no interest in the DDM skirmish game. She's never questioned me about the money I spend on them since I have a fun money budget, just as she does. I do sidework now and then which also helps fund my addiction. My son has adopted all my old mage knight and a few commons and uncommons... but typically doesnt ask for the rares. As for asking/insisting I sell my collection (or part of it), well... that would just never happen.

C

I used to be here, back in the Harbinger/Dragoneye days... made lots of trades but I can't find my account info anymore. Oh well! Starting over with Underdark, I guess.

Complete: Harbinger, Dragoneye, Archfiends, Giants of Legend, Underdark

Almost: Aberrations, Angelfire, Deathknell (49/60), War Drums (50/60)

My wife is a packrat. She knows not to harras me too much on the minis. Besides, I let the kids paint some of them and they enjoy that.

And really, she's at derby practice like five-flipping times as week. Skates, pads, fishnet, etc. all get costly too ...
