| So neither of my FLGS's can get retailer kits, as they get stuff from distributors, but people like this guy can. He doesn't even bother to split it up. I hope it rots on his shelf 'till the end of time.....and for $39 that's quite likely. [/rant off]

| Yep, this one is a little fishy.
I'm fortunate to be in an area where the FLGS can get these items an gladly they're fairly disrtubuted to all who attend the events.
Guys like this are the reason retailer kits have been harder to get.

| I know that I'm in a different position from you guys, but as someone who lives way off, have no FLGS or any LGS that have retailer kits (and I tried even convincing them to buy it and I'll pay full costs to get new people to this game) I must admit that if was a little cheaper i might have bought it. It's a good way to promote the game and I'd love to have people to trade with locally, and have a real-life skirmish game with. Don't get me wrong, I love the community, I enjoy vassal and the EC, I even had a few very successful trades, but let's face it, there's no DDM scene here and I can't do anything. I even proposed putting two months ago a table with my collection at a convention, dedicating the time to teach people the game and create enthusiasm, but nobody listened. The organizers said it's too peculiar for the RP community. It's all War-hammer here. So, I think that having some promotional stuff can make a change, and there isn't any other way of getting it (other than having my own shop - not in this lifetime). Putting WotDQ posters in the few RP conventions here, giving away minis ... This can work. | | Champion of Cockatrices. I wish I never wished a wand of wishing. (Wishful thinking.) I agree that having materials available is important. I can also say that I'd be tempted to bid on an auction like this if it was more reasonable. However, I do believe that auctioning these materials severely hurts the game, because it creates an environment where the kits are very difficult for LGS to acquire, and use to bring people in.
What you say makes a lot of sense. However, having these available for sale doesn't really help your cause of bringing new people. It sounds like your point is you can buy this, and use it as an LGS would. I simply think it's better to make them easier for stores to acquire, and severely penalize people that take advantage of their product for personal profit. | | "Call no man happy til he is dead" -E Cobham Brewer

| This is from a marketing kit I send out, not the retailer kits that Ian manages. The majority of stores that receive my kits are under no obligations to distribute the materials to customers, although that is the intended outcome of the mailing. We can ask this person to take down this offer on ebay but he doesn't have to.
I regularly evaluate my program for effectiveness. If it looks like the kits are being used as intended for the most part I will continue sending them out. However, if the program is being abused I'll look for other ways to spend my budget to encourage and reward play. For the time being I'll keep on keepin' on. | | Assoc. You see a handful of auctions like this every so often, but not enough to think the system is broken and like madda indicated, this is the only way some people can hope to get some of these materials. Usually most sellers break them down into smaller lots of single maps or minis or whatever, but sometimes they just go for the one shot deal. I also suspect that sometimes it is not the store, but a "favored" customer who was handed the booty to "give out" to his friends perhaps and decides to score some coin instead...happens. | | Built the addition for this addiction, now on to the "gaming table" project.... http://www.maxminis.com/hw_list.asp?user=Zenako last updated 29 May 2006 Set Status: in a nutshell = all of all In Process trades 0), (Sig last updated 05/29/06) 300 plus Completed Trades -

| | Honestly this is the only way I can actually get some of those things, like repaints, epic cards, etc. While it sucks that someone is doing something like this, since these kits are only given out to certain ppl, others will suffer and not be able to acquire the same things. So this is a way for others to acquire these things. *shrug* it sucks, but honestly it helps me out. If ppl didnt sell these things, I'd have a hard time having to trade a crapload just for one repaint, epic, etc. | | Champion of a Knight of Takhisis/Knight of Neraka | |

Same here. I'm not a retailer, but I have a fairly large group of local gamers I play with, and most of them can't make it to the bigger cities for the tournaments or go to the sponsor shops where they could get promo/kit stuff.

Any chance one of these could find it's way to Rules Of Engagement Games in Havelok North Carolina? Care of Steve or Janine (or me). We really would use these to promote the game. We have not been able to get an OP kit. Call Janine she is ripe for a little marketing schmooze, just don't tell her I said that!
