I originally wanted to post this in my upcoming tournament report (should be up later tonight or Monday), but felt it was best to split this off into its own thread since this is about the 'social aspect' of the Garland Qualifier on 6-10-2006.

First off, thanks to everyone that showed up. I came clear across Texas just to play against human beings, plural, for a change. I'm used to tournaments for competitive games being full of rude jerks who are liable to steal your stuff if you don't watch it like a hawk. In contrast, everyone at the Garland DDM Qualifier was sociable, polite, friendly, and still Playing To Win. That was very, very nice; I can only assume it's representative of the DDM tournament scene in general.

It was a lot of fun hanging out with you guys, and I only regret that my schedule kept me from having more time to spend with you all. You all had good senses of humor and were nice to be around, so I wanted to say this: Thank you. You made the trip all the way from western Texas absolutely worthwhile!

My regards also go out to Mark Hay (correct spelling?) for running The Comic Asylum, the FLGS where the tournament was run. This was the second time in my life I'd been to a gaming store of any kind, and I was impressed; prices were good, the store was clean, and both he and the rest of the staff there were quite polite.

I had a great time at my very first DDM tournament, due to both the store and the players.

First off, congrats to ye Pegasus Knight! I don't mind losing so much if it's to the eventual champion, and you really know how to work that quirky little band. Go make some noise at the Nationals.

I agree about the atmosphere at the Garland Qualifier. Everybody was very friendly, and it was great to see and meet so many maxminis players. The Comic Asylum was a nice venue. There were hangups (when *aren't* there?) but overall things were pretty smooth. My first quals, and despite my miserable pathetic performance, prolly not my last.

Again, hooray for Pegasus Knight!
