| except that the power of the Nightwalker, and it's status in the D&D world, pretty much made it a Unique.
I could see multiple DB pack lords in a single encounter. The power levels (CR) are much different.
The color schemes are very similar though.

| just because they are a pack lord, doesn't mean you don't want a pack of them. I plan on using 4-8 for higher level encounters and I can see 2-3 of them for standard encounters being useful. A packlord is nothing much but an advanced Displacer beast. Whats not to love about that?
The nightwalker was something only rarely faced, let alone in groups. There was a cool adventure in Dungeon this month that featured them in large numbers. You could reasonably use 4 of them at a time. I shudder at the thought though. | | Looking for someone to cosponser a midwest DDM event. let me know if your interested! | | Their organization is solitary or pair. That said, I don't see any real reason why you couldn't run an encounter with 4-8 of them, and just call them "advanced displacer beasts" instead of "pack lords". | | Champion of the Rakshasa. No quite. The problem with the Nightwanker was that it cost so much you could never use more than one in a DDM game - this is not so with the Packlord - and the CR was so high that you rarely, if ever, would use more than one in RPG - again, this is not true of the packlord. Coiuple that with the Nightwanker's rather dull sculpt and the fact that GoL was the first huge set and there really is no comparison at all.
The one figure Nightwanker Uber-Dud potential in this set is the Bluespawn Godslayer, but we will have to see the point cost to know for sure. | | Champion of the Gelatinous Cube. Nemesis of Gnomes and Dinosaurs.

Oh yeah, mine is totally... she HATES spiders.
On another note, the Huge fire looks superb, the spiders will be great for roleplaying and have decent stats, the packlord is a very nice sculpt, and I'm even holding out hope that the bluespawn's stats will make me think twice about playing one in skirmish, unlike the Nightwalker. | | Champion of Tanis Half-Elven

| Ironic that the huge I get the most use from is the Nightwalker.
Little bit o' sculpy and he makes a great Huge Earth Elemental (or pack of Huge Earth Elementals, though I've only got one finished). He could even be modified as an Air Elemental (with a even more sculpy). I gave up on fire elementals as soon as I found out there'd be one in DQ.
I can think of about a dozen Huge minis that I can change the nightwalker into. Can't think of any I could mod the Pack Lord or Blue Barney into....
Granted, I'll be wanting at least two packlords for RPG. I'm waiting eagerly for the MM4 before deciding how many Barneyspawn I'll want. It could be 1...it could be more. | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. | Hopefully we'll see a new displacer beast here soon so that we can have more peices that will be useful with the Displacer Beast Pack Lords commander effect. | The Packlord should make a decent regular D-Beast if you're willing to trim the base.
And, yes, I would like to see a new one hit the shelves soon, too.
As for the new "Nightwalker" I certainly don't think it's the Packlord. Blue Barney seems to be the main Huge gathering hate (irrespective of Skirmish stats) right now--So I'd say he's the new title-holder.
And a new Beholder can wait for another year. We've waited a very long time for new D-Beasts, Umber Hulks, our first Gelugons, etc. that I don't feel bad about not seeing a Beholder for a little while longer. | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

| A new Displacer Beast would make everyone happy, and I bet there's one in the works. From the things that Shoe has said, etc.. I have a feeling it would be another rare though, but that doesnt bother me one bit. I honestly dont need lots of them. Being able to get a few is mainly what I'm after.
As to the Beholder, I'd love to see another one soon. The original is playable somewhat, but is nerfed by a lot. And it seems like the designers were conservative with it, which was smart. But now that they know how things are, hopefully they can make one that isnt so squashed by a Construct/Undead. I still want to see the one where they cut out their central eye, and cast spells. I think something like that would be great for 200 pt play and even epic. Having special abilities and spells would be pretty nifty. I keep hoping for it someday.
I think the only huge that ppl will be annoyed about getting is the Blue Dragonspawn. I just cant foresee liking getting it, or at least getting multiples will annoy ppl. | | Champion of a Knight of Takhisis/Knight of Neraka

| That's funny, I was assuming that last (huge) set's T-Rex was last set's Nightwalker.
Think about it, the set list on the uncommons is a lot better, I'd say. As has been said, only the Godslayer is pretty unwanted. Last set, as a minimum, few would want more than 1 Nightwalker, or more than, umm, 0? ([:P]) T-Rexes.
