| Someone just posted that underdark is now out of print.
I don't believe this "out of print" propaganda!
Did you see the pictures from winter fest? (or what ever it was called)
They did a vintage game, and they had stacks and stacks and stacks of harbinger and dragoneye. Where were they hiding those?
And how long have they said aberrations has been out of print? Yet now with the player kit, you get a "free" aberrations booster.
I bet they have a warehouse full of mini boosters.

| There is probably a good amount left over from the origional sets. There is always a certain amount of 'overrun' that companies keep for future reference (or use).
I wouldn't go so far as to call it "propaganda" though...

| I think it was adequately answered in the other thread - thetre is a difference between having a few dozen boosters left and having enough cases to fill a store's order.
I do want to know - where di dyou guys here that Underdark was out of stock?

| Haha, and I've heard that they have still have cases of many of the promo figures. Even the ones where they've only released 12 of them or so.
I don't know. I'd imagine that Wizards would keep a few cases of any of the old sets around. Not enough to actually sell again, but for prizes or other stuff. | | Well out of print means just that... it is not being printed any more and the company will not be sending more to the distributors. Does this mean the company may not have a few horded away for a later date??? In the big scheme of the production run, what's wrong with WotC holding back a dozen or so cases for special events and stuff? I'm sure there's been thousands and thousands of cases made (I mean, Paizo got 5,000 HBDw/S, and those aren't even 1 per case), so the market's gotten enough to pretty much meet the demand. What would 2 dozen cases more really bring to the total distribution? But on the flip side, spread those cases out over a few years at special events, NOW you've got something that'll generate buzz FAR more than the simple profit on 15 retail cases... A tin-foil hat moment, to be sure [:P]
I'd guess that the "Underdark is out of print" comment was generated by a seller whose distributor has run dry. Not too shocking considering that Underdark has the Iron Golem, Balor, Ankheg, medium-sized spiders, etc, etc, etc. It's a close run with Angelfire for 'most-useful set to RPGers.' It also was the first set that had across-the-board high-quality sculpts and outstanding paintjobs (Angelfire was close, but not quite there). I didn't bother getting into DDM until Underdark was released.

No. I would never bash on Winter Fantasy, in fact, I'm dying to go next year. No, I was refering to a certain promo that is quite valuable showing up at a local 'mini-con' that a store held...the owner of which I tend to detest. Good for me since I know it's value and got some for selling purposes...but a random drop location IMO. | | | |

| | I was the head judge for WF and spent a lot of time with the WoTC guys organising the big event. Ian Richards had a couple of cases of Harbinger and Archfiends and thats it. He actually had to scrimp for enough product to offer it as prizes as well. They don't keep much on stock of the older stuff. Even their private collections are out of Harbinger and Archfiends. They could of been BS'ing me but they had no reason too. Ian could of sold that stuff on ebay for a tidy profit, instead he put it up at a tournament with a 20$ entry fee. | | Looking for someone to cosponser a midwest DDM event. let me know if your interested! I was at Wotc today and if they have cases of Harbinger sitting around they are hiding them from me. Trust me.. I've looked [:)]

That is correct. They confirmed it and said that the hotel was doing some renovating to make the area nicer... maybe even some carpeting.
I'm hoping they can do another Vintage event this year. Heh... Carpet?! who needs no stinking carpet!
Funny thing is, that this will be the 3rd year in Crystal City, but it will be the first year that the event will actually be held in the conditions that WotC originally wanted!
If I had to guess, we won't see another Harbinger or Archfiends vintage event.
BUT, don't discount the possibility of an Aberrations/Dragoneye Vintage at WF 07, and maybe a GOL/WotDQ in 08!
It'll be good to see you at a WF again Ghendar!
