| So while we were there a few of us (striderlotr, Kiddoc and myself) spent some time with lurkinglidda and Shoe. I mentioned this in the Dreamblade topic here in General but I don't think alot of folks are paying attention to it. Here are some highlights ...
- lurkinglidda has a Drizzt on her desk that is mis-stamped as a common - she also has a mordy figure holding a sign that says "oh no you didn't" ... very amusing ... talk to the hand ...
- she and Shoe were discussing something that Wizards was planning to do ... something that a few folks have talked about and don't expect to happen. I'm not going to say what it is, but it should be announced I think in the next few months.
- I think we've settled that the true alignment system for D&D is best represented by the gnome/warforged axis and the pirate/ninja axis.
- we established that I have more gnomes than anyone ... if you want more gnomes, ship me your warforged ... or your wrackspawn | | Triangle DDM Skirmish Group | My Email | 45-ish trades and counting | Stuff for Trade * * * Show your brother some love and click here * * *

This can refer either to (1) the mission packs, (2) an aquatic set, or (3) non-random packs of assorted minis. It could also refer to set rotation/retirement (which I sincerely hope ISN'T the case). I would hazard a guess that it's probably non-random packs of minis. | There are also some number of Dragonborn fighters that went through production and the production facility didn't do the number of paint steps WOTC asked, so they had to re-run a whole bunch of them (but some are likely in boosters). We saw one of these not-painted-as-well-as-it-should-have-been ones and it didn't look too bad but was clearly missing some highlights, etc.
And Sammael ... it was something very cool that I for one wasn't expecting.

| That's neat. I've always read that WotC staff go out of their way to speak with community leaders, tournament organizers, successful competitive players, and so forth. It's cool to see that's definitely the case; hope to be joining you one of these days. That bit about Aspect of Hextor as a film critic is...definitely amusing.

Hmmmm Interesting guess.
My intial thought was for the stand alone packs, or the Mission packs. But plenty of people have been talking about those. The hue and cry from replacements cards hasn't been carried along in a while.

You'll get a chance first hand at Gen Con. Seriously, just go up and ask, and you'll get similar treatment. Ian and Shoe in particular are great to rub elbows with. They (appear to!?) like us, and they love dolling out the obscure clues...

| Offhand, I'd guess that it's a reprint set. Questions regarding the security of the master molds have been repeatedly dodged, and more than a few folks would love to see certain minis hit the presses again.
Replacement cards were a big deal for some time and there was a massive thread about it on the WotC boards. But we were basically told "no way" and so the issue gradually died. I don't foresee any revisitation to it--even though it would be an issue of minimal effort (as far as I can see) on the part of WotC.
Non-Random packs just don't ring true for me unless it's A) part of a reprint thing or B) part of a planned adventure set. Everything of psych of marketing (that I'm familiar with) tells me that the non-random packs wouldn't be nearly as profitable as the regular booster boxes and that alone would demand that assets be better applied to different projects. Even though people have been calling for the planned adventures for more than a little while it still doesn't seem quite right. After all, why go through the effort of doing that if you're already planning the adventures and mini releases to go with each other? Duplication of effort is generally frowned upon corporately speaking.
Still, I'm anxious to see what Wizards announces. | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

Large commons? Aquatic rules? Resculpting of the entire Harbinger line? Mounts with de-attachable riders? A medium worg rider? Huge packs with two dragons in it like Dooku suggested once? 3-D rules for flying creatures? Releasing another huge set next year? Boxed adventure sets (like 2nd editon boxed set, but with minis included!)?

Oh well, while I'm here, I'll give my 2 pence:

I highly doubt the Large Commons (see Design and Development III), and the Gnomes, even though listed, is something I doubt they'd be talking about diong for a while. Okay, this is going to drive some of us crazy(ier).
1) "Something that Wizards was planning to do." Something that Wizards has been planning to do? Something that Wizards has been planning to do. Is this a "minis" something, a D&D "something" a "crossover" something, a "tournament" something, a "marketing" something, a "retail" something? Dang, too many possibilities.
2) "A few folks have talked about [it] and don't expect [it] to happen." Hmm. A "few folks" implies not all that much discussion has been generated on the topic--but enough to merit notice. And, they don't expect it to happen. This could be a few things too. Minis distribution? Minis repaints/resculpts? Minis that affect the game in their own meta way (such as magic items, or 1-point minis)?

| My guess is magic items.
We've discussed it some, but the general concencus was that it was not going to happen. While discussing it, someone from WotC (Shoe?) added that it was considered, but that the idea was shelved. I didn't get the idea that it was shelved because it was a horrible idea... I got the idea that it was shelved because it needed further work to make it play-friendly.
However, I really hope it is an acquatic set. A set that was designed to be primarily stand-alone with its own maps for underwater action would be cool. Many figures in the set could have two cards (similar to normal and epic cards) so that they could be used in underwater maps (with the green card) or used on normal maps (witht he brown or blue card). | | Champion of Meepo _*_ Myztek on the Wizards Boards. _*_ (2206 DDM on 03/06/06) Please note: The use of the indicates an attempt at humor ... often a bad attempt.
