Anybody else have the amazingly bad luck of pulling 2 Spiders (3 total). I thought the distribution should have prevented this. Everything was done right and I received two boosters with identical huges from the same case.

My luck didn't end there my rares were Wizened Elder (why is this a rare?) and the Fang Dragon (the Ambush Drake without a breath weapon). Continuing on my only commander was the Bonded Summoner (great scuplt!) which wasn't played due to cost and the lack of any fire in my pull.

Anyway I played a triple spider band and after 3 losses packed it in.

I haven't seen a report from Utah yet. How did everything shake out?

I dropped by for about an hour after getting back from Idaho. I got to the shop at about 5 pm. I heard that Britton won.

I did pull one but not two. Didn't play either the promo or the normal one.

Dang, tough luck. From the same case, eh? Jeez, I am surprised as heck but maybe the next booster you get will mean karma owes you BIG TIME and maybe you'll get an aspect or something comparitively good. Any chance you could give details on how badly the matches went, what you faced, etc?

P.S.-----I'll gladly take that Large Fang Dragon off your hands if you don't want it.[)]

One guy at our prerelease pulled two spiders, for a total of 3. He didn't even bother to play. I think I would have though, if it were me. Between Smite Poisoned and Wall Walker, I think multiple spiders could really work.

I was really bummed for you when I saw your pulls. I know what it's like to get bad pulls (though usually I do pretty well) and it can just ruin all your fun for the day.

As for the tournament results, my friend Britton went undefeated with Dracolich and Huge Black with Sorcerer. Isaiah took second with Dracolich and Godslayer, the Bahamut band took 3rd, and I took 4th with Godslayer and Mountain Troll. I'm pretty happy since I'm coming out of the pre-release with 8 boosters for entry and 3 boosters in prizes. But that really does suck that you pulled 2 spiders. We thought it would be bad enough just to pull one. Sorry man.

the first guy to get his boosters at the portsmouth realease got 2 spiders. i beleave he placed 5th. he also used the yanti sorcerer and a storm archer. the boosters came from the same case. and after multiple cases no one pulled a blue spawn that i saw. now that is scary to think about. tons of spiders and displacerbeast and huge fire elementals though.

I think the biggest thing that hurt spiders in the prerelease was being lvl 8. I never failed a morale save (+5 from my cleric of Syreth), but I failed every poison save, breath weapon save, and one key paralysis save. With three of them, your big three hitters has to roll a 15 to save vs Dracolich Paralysis, poison, or breath weapon saves. Also, it boggles my mind that they are not immune to poison. Otherwise I really like the piece.

yah that poison think kinda sucks, what if he bit his own lip. he would kill his self. i felt bad fro mthe dude that pulled the spiders at our release. not only did he have that pull but he also face the top 4. every person he went against made it to the top 4.

2 spider bands are the ones i lost to, my huge fire was immune to poison but fire didnt hurt the spiders. my eldritch would save vs poison but couldnt save against them all and it kept coming down to, if i activate the eldritch, poison kills him so i lose.

whats sad is i had a golden protector i didnt play.... if i had studied the set more i would of used him but i like surprises

The Spider doesn't suck, it's just a little trickier than it seems at first. Yes, the save hurts, but c'mon, who is making DC 25 on a regular basis anyway?

+20 to hit is good, even in Epic. He will hit even the highest ACs about half the time. His base damage is 30, and he hits poisoned targets for 40. The DC on that poison is 20, respectable even in Epic. Don't discount the poison itself either. While that's working, the HFS is effectively dealing 50 damage per turn.

So he only has a single attack? Look at what else he has: Wall Walker. People tend to overlook this. He only needs to begin his move touching even a little piece of a wall to gain Flight. Flying is proven to make even a huge base much more maneuverable. Play on the Tomb of Queen Pereguine (seems appropriate) and there are plenty of walls to walk on. So, if he keeps moving, the single attack doesn't hurt.

AC 20 is not so great, but 180 HP is ok. 10 points of Cold and Fire resistance isn't much anymore, but helps in some situations.

I think one problem is that people were expecting him to stand there and block. He can do that for a round or two, but not for long against multiple hitters or anything bigger than himself. He's probably more suited for hit and run tactics, basing commanders, breaking apart formations, etc.

The spider isn't a bad piece, but remember, this was a sealed tournament. To have the only huges you get be all spiders is not the way to have a decent shot at winning.

To add insult to injury, some kid drew both Aspects in his boosters. [:(]

The spider will do fine in constructed I think...but you've got to have a huge dragon of some kind to make it work in sealed.

I agree with this notion and as for the Aspects: choices, choices, choices..................................................

I saw you pull those and with the rares you got that is just bad luck =(. I was on the same table in fact. I think on our table I was the only one to pull a huge rare? that there was that one table where one kids pulls both Aspects, and a friend pulls the AoB. I also think they got that evicserator (sp?) as well or maybe that was his brother that did. The only rare I dont think I saw there was a Tordek.

No spider hate here. I understand the value of the spider in the constructed format. I love playing a 200pt game with the Arachnomancer and spiders. And look forward to playing the DA with these at a later date.

I was just bemoaning my bad luck. The saves are horrid and the lack of poison immunity can not be explained. However they will be fun to repaint just like my collection of spiders of lolth (recluse, widow, phase, and wraith).

Over a year ago now (maybe later) someone posted a photo expressing their opinion of the GoL set. It was a battlemat with several T-rexs and a few twenties. Having pulled 5 T-rexs (3 HRDs as well) the photo struck true to me then. And I must admit while looking at my spiders I was thinking $40 for this?
