| My huge rares were the Eldrich Giant and Tundra Scout.
Regular rares were Griffon Rider, Dino Rider, Talon of Tiamat, Goliath Cleric, War Weaver & Cadaver Collector.
No Pack Lord or Blue Barney

| Well, I finally got to open the 5 cases me and a friend had together...we got good distribution for us, but i'd say we got alil lucky based on what's being said around here...
two sets of tundra/eldritch two sets of sorcer on bd and draco one set of aspects
basically, i already had a bahamut from release tourney, so i traded my new extra one to my friend and he's only short tiamat as his huge rare.
2 cases + 7 boosters from release tourneys and i'm 3 shy of a complete set, blackguard, wizened, and meepo. i do only have 1 stirge...got at release. of the 5 cases, we had 2 stirges total, both in my friends cases...grr..;) we did end up with several tordeks...at least 2 too many.

As do I, which is why this is all the more disappointing. I really, truly believe that Shoe, Lidda, Ian et al do there very best, but I cannot believe that this distribution debacle represents Wizards' best by a longshot.
I am not really angry just very, very disappointed - almost to the point of depression. I was so pumped about the new set and then this happens. I just felt so damned let down. When I pulled the same huges out of the second case as the first, which were in turn the same as the case I pulled from the the pre-release, I felt the same crushing, gut-turning sense of loss I did the first time I saw The Phantom Menace; like something I loved had been cheapened. Before Phantom Menace I was a huge Star Wars fan (since '77), now I really don't give a toss about any of it. I remains to be seen whether my love for DDM weathers this storm. I hope it does, but right now I feel so down about the whole thing it is hard to see how.
A week ago I would have been stopping by my FLGS tonight to get Dragondown Grotto, now I wonder whether it is really worth spending the money. While there I would surely have picked up some DQ boosters but now I cannot bear the through of pulling yet another duplicate. This whole situation has made me question whether it was worth investing thousands of dollars in DDM and whether it is worth continuing to do so.
Very sadly yours,
Dave. [:(] | | Champion of the Gelatinous Cube. Nemesis of Gnomes and Dinosaurs.

| It does appear some/many cases are psudo-seeded. It is also proven that not ALL cases are that way.
(My Tiamat came with neither of the ones you listed, as did ktatroe's - I don't remember what rare mine came with, but the one Slaughterstone came with Bahamut and ktatroe's Tiamat came with a Griffon Cavalry)
Personally, my distribution has been spectacular. 2 cases + 5 boosters has netted me no duplicate Huge rares, and a whopping 4 duplicate non-Huge rares.
I would venture to say that 50% of the cases are showing strong patterns, while the other 50% are not. We had to expect some psudo-seeding, given packaging constraints. The Griffon Cavalry alone makes seeding somewhat necessary. | | [http://www.hordelings.com/frontend/profiles/profile.php?user_id=22]

Gosh, poor QA from Wizards? Color me surprised. Who'da thunk it?
Once is a datapoint. Now it is becoming a trend.
There is a clear, although not 100% reliable trend. It is an annoying trend. It is a bad trend. I don't think that there are many people that question that this bad trend exists.
The trend is that Wizards QA stinks. Last set it was paint jobs, this set it is distribution. And there has been a consistent pattern of poor QA in print and web materials lately. Heck, if we are to believe we we're told, they had to "stop the presses" because of a poor QA job on one of the rares, and they had to get him repainted.
(Hmm. Wonder if that caused an extra rush in packing, which is what is causing this problem.)
quote: Originally posted by jgsugden However, we have no friggin idea why it exists. We know that the correlation between huges was news to Shoe because of his comment saying that such a correlation was not intended. However, we don't know the full story... and given the gravity of the situation and the broad outrage, I expect that we won't get a detailed comment on the situation until there has been a signifigant investigation.
There are a number of different facets in this whole situation that need to be investigated:
*Why do the huge rares have such consistent correlations?
*Why do the huge uncomomns in cases have such consistent correlations?
*Why are there certain rares that are matched with certain huge rares so consistently?
*Will these types of problems plague the next set even though it is not huge?
Give WotC some time. There is still a lot in WotDQ to enjoy... focus on the stuff you can enjoy and leave the negative stuff until WotC has had a chance to investigate and make a statement.
Why? Why give them time? Don't you think they should have spent the time figuring this out BEFORE THE SET WAS RELEASED? You want to give them the benefit of the doubt? Sorry, they used that up already. By now they should be keen to the fact that this set had to come off without a hitch, after the debacle that was War Drums. Cut them slack? Why? Isn't some of what we pay for as customers devoted to reasonable quality assurance?
Does this set have positives? Certainly. I love the figures and the selections and the sculpts and the paints jobs I have seen so far have been back to what I expect. But I don't love them so much I want to get four cases of the exactly the same figures, like some have received.
Anyhow, its obvious you and I disagree on this. You want to cut Wizards slack. I think they burned that bridge already. Like you, I am interested to see what they say (and if they say anything) about this, although I suspect absolutely nothing will come of it.

| Just want to note that my cases don't even come close to the huge rare pairings everyone describes, in 6 cases:
Case 1: Eldritch Giant - Bahamut Case 2: Eldritch Giant - Dracolich Case 3: Tundra Scout - Dracolich Case 4: Tiamat - Dracolich Case 5: Tiamat - Tundra Scout Case 6: Tiamat - SoBD
So no paired aspects, no paired giants, and no paired dracolich and SoBD. After reading a lot of threads this weekend, I was surprised to say the least. I will post full information (all pulls, linked to booster art, per booster per case) in another thread for those interested.

| | The place i go to only got in 1 sealed case of WotDQ, and i only had enough money at the time for 1 booster. In it i got a Tundra Scout and a Hobgoblin Talon of Tiamat. Since i got the Tundra Scout, from what i have been seeing there is a 80% chance of the other rare in that case being the Eldritch Giant, which is a rare i am not keen on wanting to get. | | | |

| For reference here is what I pulled in my two cases: Case 1 front L to R then Back row Bluespawn, War Weaver/ Displacer, Clawfoot/ SoBlackD, Slaughterstone TROLL, Spellscale / Dracolich, Magma Hurler/ Spider, Talon of Tiamat
Case 2 Front then back L-R TROLL, Goliath Cleric/ P Worm, Magma Hurler/ Spider, Clawfoot Rider Tundra Scout, War Weaver/ Eldritch Giant, Nightmare-Blackguard/ Fire E, Spellscale
Uncommons missed: Storm Archer, Small Black Dragon
I almost figure I should have quit after opening the first Huge rare in each case (Scout/Lich) as I already have the Promo SoBD and the Eldritch Giant doesn't interest me. Having four of the same rares in each case sucks royally.

| | I've noticed the same thing. A friend and I each got a case and opened them at the same time. We both pulled: Tiamat/Bahamut, slaughterstone Evicerator, War Weaver, Spellscale Sorcerer, Bluespawn, and Golden Protector. We lucked out on uncommons, though, and are only missing the small fire elemental. | | | |

| Just finished opening my 3 cases and I got 4 boosters at prerelease.
2 of my cases had both aspects and the aspects were in the same place in the case top right and bottom left. I got a slaughterstone eviserator with both Aspects of Tiamat. The 3rd case had the sorcerer on black and dracolich, I pulled a sorcerer on black at the prerelease and a dracolich was pulled from the same case, and both aspects were pulled from another case.
However other than the huge rare parings, and perhaps the coincidental slaughterstone, I didn't notice obvious pairings among other rares or c/uc with the huge rares. Out of all 3 cases I only got 5 duplicate regular rares and a fairly average spread of c/uc's.
And as to the slaughterstone I pulled one with the sorcerer on black at the prerelease.

I noticed both the aspect of tiamat boosters I opened were significantly heavier than any of the other, but they both also had slaughterstone eviserators in them.

| Not that I love fanning flames but even I had to roll my eyes at seeing my cases conform to the huge rare pairing. And for the record they came from three seperate sources (GO, Coolstuffinc and my local FLGS) so thats a sampling from three seperate pools of minis.
Of four of five cases had the Tiamat/Bahumat combo and the fifth had the Sorcerer and Dragon/Dracolich combo. I didn't notice any particular trend with the regular rares, got some duplicates but in no pairing combo consistantly (ie my Tiamats came w/ Tordek, Griffon Calvery, Large Green Dragon, Spellscale Sorcerer and Bahumat pulls were just as mixed) | | You see! | I got just one case:
Huge Fire elemental+magma hurler
Mountain Troll+Clawfoot:(
Warweaver+Barney
Hobgoblin Talon+Barney!!!! I thought, that getting two same HUGE uncommons is impossible!???
Tiamat+Slaughterstone Eviscerator No complaints here
Eldritch Giant+Golitth Cleric of Kavaki
In general, not a very lucky case. I hope package from Talistran makes it with all the singles goods:)

| While the distribution is still messed up, it is better than GOL, where the rares in every single case were paired. So things are getting better, just not as fast as hoped.
And actually I liked the distribution since in four cases I got all the huge rares, with doubles of the aspects, and the only regular rares I'm missing are the wizened elder and the war weaver. | | If the rare pairs are shifting, that goes back to the concern over sorting and mixing of cases at the pallet level. Think of a deck of cards. Printing out (packing boxes) of just Spades, then just Hearts and so on. The proper way to distribute these randomly would be to shuffle them up and then pack the boxes. It looks like the final shuffle did not occur, so all the Heart cases are coming out together while all the Club cases will arrive in the next wave. Eventually we get a full deck, but right now the mix is heavy on the hearts and duplicate hearts at that. Just a thought. | | Built the addition for this addiction, now on to the "gaming table" project.... http://www.maxminis.com/hw_list.asp?user=Zenako last updated 29 May 2006 Set Status: in a nutshell = all of all In Process trades 0), (Sig last updated 05/29/06) 300 plus Completed Trades -
