| I'd like to see giant ants and giant bees in an upcoming set. Those were one of the most common random monsters or side encounters from my old D&D campaigns.
Also would be nice to have another owlbear since they are a very core common monster and are hard to get these days (guy on eBay stole my money when I tried to get one).

| Chainmail Owlbears are semi-available.
There are also two very nice Owlbears in the D&D Basic Game Expansion (the forest one, not the ice one).
I have to admit, that some of the Harbinger RPG staples are about due for a resculpt (Owlbear, D-Beast, Bearded Devil, anything summonable).
As to giant ants...we have Formian Workers. They're medium-sized ants.
As to giant bees...ummm...please, no [:(] | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. Where's my pie? Champion of Dwarven Thunderlashers Knight of the Large Dire Chicken Have/Want List Trade References

| I have to agree with doing without bees and as far as ants are concerned the formian works just fine, although according to the latest Design and Development article http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mi/20060713a it looks like they won't do any other formians for a while long time, which is a shame because I actually like using the formians as a DM. | | | |

| | I do like the way they're thinking, though -- namely, include a lot of different formians if they ever were to appear in a set. It gives me hope that if things like psurlons were ever done, we'd see the three types in one fell swoop, and that'd be it. | | Champion of the Aboleth, Prophet of Denizens. This is the first I've heard of these, and they're certainly not on the WotC Product page (at least, not under any recognizable name).

It's the D&D boardgame which (I believe) is available only in Europe. However, I think Paizo had them for sale recently.
The set contains reasonably sculpted, unpainted D&D monsters. I'll see if I can find you a link. | | Have: Cat; Want: Storm Giant Champion of Anything Dragonlance Before trading, please check the Disputed Trades Thread

| Yeah the boardgame follows rules that in no way resemble real D&D (but the game is still great).
The boardgame peices are unpainted, have square bases, and take up one square...So they arent that great a substitute. | | Champion of the Skulk Vindicated Champion of the Twig Blight

I completely disagree.
Size-wise, the vast majority of the minis from the D&D boardgame (and expansions) are perfect (yes, the bases are only 1" but they're pretty easily re-based). I've had to re-base several (Owlbears, Yuan-ti, Ogres, Carrion Crawlers) and they by-and-large are in desperate need of paint, but they work very well. The White/Blue Dragon is horribly mis-scaled. It's too big for a large and too small for a huge.
They take some work, but they're rather nicely sculpted and they are generally properly scaled. The Frost Salamanders are a little on the large side (but look incredible) and the trolls are a little on the small side. The Wraiths and Carrion Crawlers are substantially better sculpts than their DDM counterparts. I just wish the Giant Owls were being ridden by elves rather than goblins. | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. | Well, that and we're running out of animals -- on the dire front, only the Dire Tiger and Dire Shark(a huge) are left! Unless we start seeing weird stuff like Dire Vultures from Sandstorm, that is, and I think I'd rather have vermin.
I definitely want to see a common giant ant, though I'm less enthusiastic about a bee. A Celestial Stag Beetle is long overdue, though. | | Champion of the Aboleth, Prophet of Denizens. BW Called Shot: Babau, UH Called Shot: Aspect of Vecna

I'd rather have a Modron than another Formian [Thats not no to a formian but I've got some.]. But Giant Wasps and Ants would be nice.
On the Snig vs Fiend folio. Snig on oversized warg was not a good choice.
We are however running out of not completely laughable monsters from the original Fiend Folio. I think the remaining ones are:
Aleax + Apparition + Giant Bat [Size S] Berbelang Caryatid Column + Coffer Corpse + Crypt Thing + Death Dog Styx Devil Devil dog + Oriental Dragons Elemental Princes of Evil. Eye of Fear and Flame + Fire Drake + Firetoad + Flail Snail Upper Class Githyanki and Githzerai + Hellcat Giant Hornet Hound of Ill Omen + Huecuva + Ice lizard + Kamadan Lamia Noble Lizard King + Mephits Mezzodaemon Necrophidius Nycadeamon Penanggalan Retriver + Revenant + Scarecrow Shadow Demon Green +, Grey + and Lord Slaad Son of Kyuss + Sussurus Svifneblin + Tabaxi + Thoqua Vodyanoi + Yellow Musk Zombie +
+ have reasonable proxies. I'm noticing a lot of undead and a fair few dogs.

| | Boy, a lot of people have strong negative feelings about bees. Wonder why? I like the healing honey! (not even sure if they still have that these days...) But yes, I absolutely agree about wanting beetles and centipedes and wasps. Those are all really essential monsters for the entry-level adventures. And I don't like using formians for giant ants (I'm assuming the formian's you're talking about are the formian warriors from aberrations. They have a humanoidish torso which is very different from an ant. | | My H/W List: http://www.maxminis.com/hw_list.asp?user=ggowan | |

| | Somebody earlier mentioned wanting scorpions. We do of course already have the fiendish monstrous scorpion, though some smaller scorpions might be in order (and/or less rare). As for centipedes it's not a perfect substitute but you can use the carrion crawler as a large centipede (of course most are smaller than that). And the Ankheg isn't a bad large beetle. | | My H/W List: http://www.maxminis.com/hw_list.asp?user=ggowan | |
