I know this belongs in the meetingplace and I have placed a thread there for people to reply, but I know many people who have regular DDM/RPG groups do not frequent that thread and I hoped to get a bit more visibility at least for a little while. So I understand it this thread gets locked or moved, but would appreciate if that did not happen immediatley.

I have been playing DDM for just over a year and a member of these boards for most of that time, and I have seen how the maxminis community really pulls together to help expand DDM. After checking the DCI website I realised that my move to the small rural area of Radford, VA will put me well over 100 miles from any sanctioned tournemant. I don't know yet if there is any presence of DDM outside the tournament scene, but I would appreciate any feedback as to how to find or develop a new community in the area.

Thanks.

Me and Daemonkain live in Charlottesville. Lord Raven and a couple other guys play in Richmond at One Eyed Jacques.

Hope that helps.

And my Virginia buddies sometimes head north to play in Gaithersburg (Other Realms) where the MD-VA Skirmish Club plays regularly or to Glen Burnie (Games and Comics and Stuff) where they hold the prereleases, qualifiers, etc.

Charles, Radford is probably 5 hours from Gaithersburg--he'd have to be pretty desperate to spend 10 hours in the car just for one of our monthly tournaments.

PerpetualStudent: I'm guessing that you've already tried it by now, but I'd search out the RPG scene in Blacksburg. When I was there...um, 10 years ago now (yikes!! I'm getting old), there was a pretty healthy scene for all types of wargames and RPGs. If I remember correctly, there would be a big gathering in the beginning of the school year where all the interested people would find out what everybody else wanted play, then they'd swap information and form into little groups for the rest of the year. Assuming that you don't meet anybody at that meeting who is already interested in DDM, that would be where you make your pitch to the general crowd about the merits of Skirmish play, to try to convince a few other people to try it.

There really wasn't much of a formalized club that you could talk to for most of the rest of the year, so unless you got in at the beginning, you might have quite a bit of trouble finding people with similar interests. You probably can't do it anymore with dorm security the way it is now, but I always had pretty good success meeting other RPGers by just wandering the dorm hallways, looking for rooms with RPG-type posters hanging on the walls.

If it turns out that there isn't much of a DDM scene in Blacksburg, you can always try to get a WOTC Delegate to come to one of the local RPG stores and run some demos or something.

Also, the scene in NC may be closer to you than Cville / Richmond.

I know they play in Cary regularly, look around on the tournament finder on Wizards for the location.

Thank you all for your responses. It looks like I will have my work cut out for me, as the tournament finder for WOTC does not show anything within 100 miles.

Fry - according to mapquest, and I know they are not always the quickest directions but I have nothing else to judge by at this time, Charlottesville is about 2:30 from me, and that is the closest I have found. Richmond seems to be about 3:30.

As for NC, Raleigh and its surrounding area is also about 3:30, and the tournamnent finder does not have any upcomming tournaments listed for the area despite the large number of players listed on Frapper.

Charlotte, NC has Underground Games and they have lots of tournaments scheduled. They are 2:45. Does anyone know anything about them?

I probably would not be able to make drives of these distances very often, but for special events I could do it.

Anyone else with suggestions please let me know.

It looks like I will have to find the game stores and clubs that aron1 mentioned. Thanks for letting me know about those - they may hold the most potential for a regular game.
