| I also doubt that it's an abishai. Despite the fact that it would fit "the pattern" of figs being released a "set late", it doesn't feel right.
The neck seems too long, and the tail seems to be not barbed enough.
And I'm going to cling to LBlackD until I choke on an Abishai! | |

They are a breed of devil, liek Pit Fiends, Chian Devils, Erinyes ect.
They are draconic devils. Winged dragon-men. They come in red, blue, black, white and green (of course).
They have been around since 1st edition D&D..But werent that popular in 3rd edition until Red Hand of Doom came out. | |

Thanks Count, that was driving me nuts. I guess they weren't around much in 2nd edition (when I started playing) or maybe I just never saw any. They sound alright, but you'd figure they'd made to be distinctive enough to stand out as a Devil rather than being mistaken for Dragons all the time. Maybe they're just not necessary. The concept sounds cool though. | |

As for the length of the GBuD, I would wager that the 15" includes between 6" and 8" of tail that's probably curled around the base.

| Yup. The Blue Abishai looks a lot like the black dragon [:D]
I'm very interested to see if blue abishai pop up in Blood War (ideally as an uncommon). I might have to postpone picking up a couple of blue wyrmlings (right size, right dragon, wrong body).
I still contend that the Blood War icon is a severed Biker Scout head. Even the ASCII supports that theory [)] | |

If it were true about it being a LBD, then he would likely never would have said anything unless he wanted reverse psychology to take place, making people question themselves and shatter many dreams but at the last minute we would cry out in joy because it really was so and it was not an abishai. Of course, on the other hand, it could have been an extremely true hint that we really should be questioning if it is an abishai in reality. Then again, Shoe and Lidda have been somewhat more active on the boards as of late(or at least seem to be) so this could very well be throwing me off of my suspicions and making my complex thoughts come out sputtering like an engine that refuses to turn over. There are too many scenarios for me to list, so I'll just leave it at this. BE AFRAID! BE VERY AFRAID!(this applies to all of those who take Black Dragons as seriously as me) | |

That's a medium black dragon in the picture (my guess is that the OP wanted to illustrate how similar the blue abishai was to the black dragon?).

| The abishai were considerably less draconic-looking in previous editions of the game. Also, the white and blue abishai were added in 3E. Here are their models from Planescape: Torment, for example:
Black Abishai
Green Abishai
Red Abishai
IMO, all abishai should have the "gothic gargoyle" look, with only their horns and frills having any resemblance to dragons of the same color. | |

He's medium black. He could even be a large black depending on how tough your PCs are [:D]
Only abishai I've seen in 3.5 are blue (Monsters of Faerun has more but that's a 3.0 book). | |
