I'd guess that any reference to either Stormlizard or Thunderlizard is indicating the same critter (hopefully Shoe will correct me if I'm wrong).
Point #2: Please be uncommon, please be uncommon, please be uncommon (if you say something enough times, it'll come true, right?) [:D]
The reason they probably decided to change it to StormLizard is because of potential legal issues.
The ThunderLizard name was already originally used in the game WarCraft III and World of WarCraft. In fact, I'm pretty sure the Thunderlizard of WarCraft III was the inspiration for the StormLizard and Redspawn Firebelcher.
Take a look at the actual in-game pics below and tell me I'm wrong.

Actually, I don't think Blizzard would ever sue them. But the legal department of big corporations can be very conservative and wouldn't try to risk a potential lawsuit, and probably advised them to slightly change the name just to be on the safeside.
On a side note, Blizzard did steal two monsters from D&D mythology - the Gnoll and Owlbear in WarCraft III. But when Frozen Throne came out, they wisely changed the name of the Owlbear to something else. Strangely, gnolls have retained their names.
As for orcs, no, Blizzard didn't rip off Warhammer (although they look pretty much like Warhammer orcs). It was ripped from Tolkien mythology. So, everybody (including D&D) who used orcs ripped from Tolkien. [)]
Although after much thought, the more plausible reason is that the creative team decided to just rename the spawn to StormLizard so as not to make it an outright all-too-obvious ripoff.

| Argh.. no. At least make the skulpt somewhat dynamic.. And please, what a strangily bent front pawn. It's possible anatomically, but I don't recall animals bending their pawns forward, when in this stage of walking.
As a side note, I received a SoBD from a trade and .. well, the proportions of the dragon looked off too.
It seems the sculpters or the concept artists know less of animal anatomy. Of course, the dragon is no real animal, but it's based of something real..
Again.. I have no use for these spawn. Pity. I hope this is the only one in the set. | | Champion of Dragotha

Weird. The mini is called a bluespawn storm lizard, but the electricity arc specifies another bluespawn thunderlizard, not storm lizard. We're not getting both a storm and thunder lizard in the same set are we? That would be sorta redundant.
I think we have our first errata / mistake discovered for the set. Hope Guy is taking notes.

| | How do they not notice that glaring of an error? I mean, it doesn't bother me, but still, that seems pretty bad. Otherwise, though, I am extremely pleased with Blood War (and with pretty much every other set they have done so far). | | | |

It would only do triple, if they use the cfx. | Quadruple damage is still only 40 non-magic. Considering how often a +7 attack will miss, you'll need all the crits you can get.
And for fewer points, a Sacred Watcher can eat scores of these guys for breakfast, and still have room for pop-tarts.
Sculpt is awesome, though. Wish they were LE for Nerull's Legion. | | | |

*shrugs* It seems like a good fodder piece. Flight, 40 HP, 40 damage critical...

| | The blue lizard is never going to be a dominant piece: The justice Archon is still a widely used piece, and is immune to electricity. If this band became strong, the justice archons would return to prominance and keep it down... 5 rounds to kill a justice archon? The justice Archon should take this guy down well before then, even with those abyssmal attack bonuses. | | I think of the Swift lightning as useless. The Lightning Bolt he has is nice, but its nothing like the Belches of the Redspawn. While his AC is high, we've seen a marked increase of to hits for a lot of the lawful factions. I still dont think ppl will have a hard time hitting him. I'd rather take the Duergar Champ for less and get the Conceal 6 from it. | | Champion of a Knight of Takhisis/Knight of Neraka | |

Yup, it's not skirmish worthy. But, I hear a lot of voices saying they want it for the RHoD, so I guess we know why it was made. | | Greyhaze's DDM Spoilers Champion of a Medium Dog & then a Darkenbeast , Raistlin Majere, Nightmare WDQ25/60, Warduke WD60/60, Anti-Champion of Guns, "Knight of Bugbears", and Joke Champion of Venger.
