| If the DDM Marilith had half the majesty and menace of the 1st Ed Type V Demon, I would forgive the lack of belly scales.
And I liked the 1st Ed Kobolds. They had character; nowadays they're just the Small Lizard Guys.

Yeah, today's modern artists (*cough*BAXA*cough*) just run rings around those no-talent hacks. As surprising as this may be to some, I actually agree with this statement for the most part. The Carrion Crawler, Beholder, and Owlbear are the most stunning examples of improvement over 1st Ed art.
However, in the case of the Unicorn, Medusa, Spectre, and Wraith I could not disagree more. Those minis are desperately in need of rescuplts, and the 1st Edition visions would be a massive improvement.

Well, at least it's obvious those gentlemen helped imbue you with a
rich fantasy life. Bordering on delusion, in fact...
Growing up and leaving junior high does lead to inconvenient
realizations. Like, for example, the realization of how ludicrous
and immature it is to say that any artist -- especially an artist that
makes a living at their art -- lacks "talent." It's much more
mature to say that you just don't like it and move on. But don't
worry, you'll realize that and move on to high school some day, son.
Then again, what do I know about style, I dont have a mullet.
absolutely nothing, actually. Your taunts, like your doodles,
haven't changed much since junior high, I see. But like I said,

Really? Its more mature to say you dont like it and move on? Guess that explains why you did your typical schtick: insult anyone who disagrees with you. Not to mention throw in another typical Jim insult towards anyone under 40 who dares "infiltrate" your game. Guess we might need to move on to high school together. In case you were still confused about irony Jim, that was a fine example. As to your hair, I would have thought the link pretty evident. You have terrible taste. But maybe you're right. | Some 1e art was good (Elmore), some was utter shit (Erol Otus), and a lot was in the middle.
Some 2e art was good (Diterlizzi), some was utter shit (Baxa), and a lot was in the middle.
Some 3e art is good (Wayne Reynolds), some is utter shit (Denis Crabapple), and a lot was in the middle.
IMO 3e art generally skews to the better while 1e art generally skews
to the worse, but neither editions art is uniformally superior to any
other. That said, 1e had a certain style that is best described as
"naive" and which is, IMO, not well suited to DDM. It was very "of its
time," and that time is long past.

generalizations. Actually, just you, this time around.

Yeppers, throwing up a random piece of artwork definitely proves
your point. And what core books or supplements have yourjunior high doodles been published in? Or perhaps they're in the
Louvre?
I could go on about how the First Ed. artists were operating under
restrictions that modern artists don't have in terms of publishing
resources and technology. I could mention how they were
essentially creating things out of nothing in many cases, with only
whatever descriptions came out of Dave and Gary's fevre dreams when it
came to things like the Beholder, so maybe that's why those illos are a
little on the lame side. And I could also mention how completely
ludicrous it is to disparage the talents of those early artists since
they were the inspiration for the very talented artists of
today, and most of those modern artists would gladly admit to
that. And if (as Sulaco rightly asserts) the artists of today
generally produce superior work, maybe, just maybe, that is so partly
because they are building on the foundation those earlier gentlemen
laid. But to understand those points would require a sense of
persepective, and I can see that I'm just trying to teach a catty
little piggy to sing. So I'll stop, for Faragdar's sake.
I'm going to go talk to the adults now, Junior. You go doodle in
your junior high notebook and look at some hairstyles. And dream,
son. Dream.
