One of my FLGS has a couple of the D&D starter kits that come with an Abberation booster. It's a great package for $30, but I have all the other stuff already, I'd only be getting it for the Abberations booster (and I don't have that many Abberations minis). Frankly, that's too much for me for one booster, but I was fishing for opinions. It would be worth it if I pulled a Beholder, but that's pretty slim odds.

Also, does anyone know what minis they put in the newer starter set? I was thinking of getting it (it's cheaper) just for home skirmishes, but I've already got the Black Dragon (the interesting mini I could make out on the box).

The Beholder is in Deathknell. You can find many useful creatures like Sahaguins in Abberations, some good monster rares, but the odds of you getting your 30$ worth in miniatures is incredibly low. I would personally pass.

Paying $30 for a Abberations booster is too much.  I believe even the most expensive singles from the set go for far less than that.  But whay you are look at is not about the minis (although it is from your perspective) but instead about the rest of the kit which includes a copy of the Players Handbook.   Thiry dollars is still a little high but the kit's price depends less on the minis than other things.

The Player's Kit comes with a full set of D&D dice. Its a nice set to. Colorful marble and it it has four d6s to make rolling up characters easy. And it comes with a softcover version of the 3.5 Players Handbook. THAT is what you would be paying for.

Throw in a Aberrations booster and $30 is a sweet deal. A Hardcover Player's Handbook alone is $30.

If all you want is the booster than spending $30 is totally not worth it. Especially if you are hoping for a Beholder because the beholder mini isnt in Aberrations.

My FLGS sells abberration boosters for 14.99 and they dont move from the shelf.  Frankly, the set isnt very good.  But to pay 30$ for one is insane.

I wouldnt pay $30 for an Aberrations booster.  You should be able to find a lot cheaper just about anywhere.

Well, if you mean the newer Basic Set, it would include a Large Blue Dragon, not a Black Dragon...

That's a crazy price.  I don't think I'd pay $9.99 for one.  Maybe $5.99--maybe.

What everyone else said - $30 is waaay too much. The best you could hope for is to pull a Wyvern or Green dragon but even then it ain't worth it.

Aberrations had some pretty good pieces but by far more clunkers. You'd be better off buying $30 worth of singles.

I'm pretty sure that you could go on ebay and "build" a booster from a bunch of auctions and get much cheaper than $30.  I think you would be way better off doing so instead of buying the boosters for that price.  Or go online and find a seller who's selling boosters for much less, there has to be more than enough who are doing so.

Frankly, yes. It's still possible to find most of aberration minis for low prices (but I think that's not gonna last, because there are good minis in this set RPG-wise).
