| | I know it seems a little silly to use such a nice floor set with pre-painted minis (or at least my wargaming friends think so) but I was wondering if anyone he had tried it in skirmish play. | | | |

| Not in Skirmish play, well not YET anyway. My friend with all the Dwarven Forge says that he is willing to skirmish, but would like a nice elaborate DW set up. Once we get around to doing it, I'll let ya' know how it went. On the other hand, we use DDM minis all the time when playing 3.5, and we use lots of Dwarven Forge in those setups and the minis compliment it perfectly well. Yes, some people prefer to paint thier PCs from Reaper or other pewter skulpts, but the difference in paint quality isn't enough to deter me from using a plastic mini as a PC either. If you have both Dwarven Forge and D&D minis, theres lots of good times to be had. Late-O --GiliusThunderHead | | | |

| | I have 4 different large Dwarven Forge sets. We use them all of the time and it really makes a difference. Especially when you can build up and have a battle really thre dimensional. | | Beware the Were-Lady bug (Hybrid Form)! | If your looking for that effect you could try www.hirstarts.com . He has a line of molds that give you a lot of versatility in making dungeon pieces. I made several custom molds from his caste pieces and they immulate everything Dwarven Forge has. I'm fond of it and if I need a couple of more rooms for tonights game I can just caste them and throw some paint on them. It's not for everyone though. If you don't like playing with that sort of stuff then Dwarven Forge is the way to go.
Ainsty, who has been bought out buy Old Crow Miniatures has a great line as well. It has to be shipped from england but you can buy the exact pieces you are looking for. Unlike Dwarven Forge and Hirst Arts though they are not actual 1" scale so they wouldn't be legal for DDM. | | | |

| I think they'd be fun to use. Lots of times I still use a giant man, or play minis on the floor with a yardstick like I used to in Chainmail.

| | I love the look of the Dwarven Forge, but in order to own any, I would have to mortgage my house. That stuff is pricey, lads. | | One guy in our play group made all of the original skirmish tiles out of the Harbinger starter set, using Hirst Arts castings. It looks really nice for playing the old school games. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

| Yes, I've used them for casual skirmish games.
Set up a large DF dungeon. Place one warband at one side and the other warband somewhere else in the dungeon. Then sprinkle around the DF treasure pieces - armor gives +1 to AC, Sword gives +1 to attack, scroll returns a spell to a spell caster etc. Add perhaps a few "wandering monsters" to guard the treasure and viola - a fun casual skirmish game. | | "What is to give light must endure burning" -Viktor Frankl

| | I'd love to use them, but I'd have to get a second job to afford them. Posted By Sean-Khan on 09/01/2006 2:52 AM Terrains, yup, but not dwarven forge. There's plenty of examples at crafter's corner about using terrains in games, although I think most people use them in RPG only.
Yup. I use lots of terrain in my games, and occasionally in minis, but not DF. A lot of people rave about it, and most of what I've seen looks damn nice. I've been tempted to buy DF before, but I use mostly cardstock terrain (2D and 3D), which is a lot lighter (and more portable) and usually less expensive.
Using terrain for RPGs can really enhance the game. For minis, it doesn't do as much except visually, mainly because the rules don't support all the extras that terrain can add.

| | I have a friend that went to the gencon that had that HUGE set up on the big square of tables and asked the rep how much it would cost to get a set up like the display and the number was only in the hundreds so my friend went out and spent that much and it did not even come to the set up that was displayed at gencon. After that he was just imagining how much that setup would cost the consumer. | | Thanks, realmaster. Let's split up!!!!!
