Hi.  I'm going to organize a tournament at the Phantom of the Attic in Pittsburgh on Sunday October 22nd.

I'm going to award prizes for winning the tourney, best themed band, and best painted band.

I need suggestions on how to  word the rules for the tournament around themed bands and to make the tournament a little different from regular league play.

These are the ideas I have

1.  at least 5 creatures in your band have to be the same race, if humanoid or type if non-humanoid.

2.  Map selection will also be considered in awarding best themed prize.

3. No more than one of each creature in your band, except for summoned creatures & minions.

In rule 1. above should it be "at least 4 creatures"?

What other rules or guidelines would you suggest I use to encourage themed bands?

Any help is appreciated.

Well, I kinda like the option of odd-ball themes, you know, all fliers, or all commanders, or all creatures that live underground. And, these might not fly in your contest. But, that's not to say there's anything wrong with what you're doing--my own likes are a bit odd anyway.

I think that 5 creatures of the same type is good. I think you'll want to force the issue.
