| I built the entire castle from scratch. I drew up a plan and built it from wood. The sides of each tower slide off for access to the interior. I sprayed the outside with a product called "Make it stone" from Hobby Lobby.

| Our RPG group defending the castle had seven players. I had three other players attacking the castle. This takes DM pity out of the situation. I also had another friend help DM the game.

| The castle is built in pieces so it can be used in different set ups. This also allows for easy storage and transport. The idea came to me one night while sitting on my deck looking at the corn field. "Build it and they will play" the voice said. So I did. In the garage, night after night, until it was finally done. This is a photo of the original pieces when my Dad helped me with the initial concept at his home (Thanks Dad). If you live on the front range of Colorado and have the need for a Castle, let me know. I would be happy to loan it out! I already have plans for a new one!

| | tourette's, BRAVO! It's posts like yours that I was hoping to see in this thread. Nice to see a guy build a castle with his own two hands, and then let the whole gaming group have fun with it. I particulary like the first two photos - the approach of the bad guy units with their seige towers. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

| Truly awesome Tourette's.
400 vs 80 in a castle.... The 400 isn't going to win, though I was surprised to see them actually make it into the castle.
I'm guessing the defenders didn't have pitch to set the towers on fire, and the attackers made it onto the walls.
Any morale issues involved? Cause I can't see the attackers getting down to a couple of loan ogres and still fighting it out.
What rules did you use for breaking down the gates?
I'm interested as my campaign will have an orc army invading a town at some point and the town has a small wooden keep in it that I'm thinking about building in a less detailed but similair way.
Very, very cool shots though... got me completely in a gaming mode rather than a work mode that I am currently getting paid for....

| | The Castle took roughly two months to build in my spare time, hidden in the garage so the group wouldn't see it. The first time they saw it was when they defended it. The attackers had 480 total and defenders didn't do a very good job of trying to stop any of the siege weapons. They had access to fireballs which would have stopped the towers considering they were so close together, but the attackers kept foiling the wizards plans. Once they gained access to the walls, there was no stopping them. The front and side gates had set HP and the rams had set damage based on who was swinging them, so I knew roughly how many rounds it would take to sunder the gates. They had already abandoned the gate house before the ramming begun, so there was no way to stop them. Once open, 8 orges swarmed the courtyard crushing the handful of defenders left to buy time. Morale was a factor. It was based on the primary leadership of the attackers, it was not a factor for the defenders (They had no where to go). They never went after the leaders which surprised me, but in the end, morale broke with almost 80 attackers left and they fled. The defenders had a few less than what was shown in the final picture. | | | |

| It is a sad commentary to my level of geekness and how interesting I found the above description of the battle.
Sounds amazing, probably not amazing enough to try and learn how to build one myself, but pretty freaking amazing to envision regardless.

I think anyone who frequents these boards is probably a hard-core geek, whether outwardly or from in the closet. I loved the battle details same as you. What I'm most interested in, is trying to figure out how to mesh some elements of the skirmish game with both mass battles rules and RPG flavour. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

| | As far as storage goes, all of the buildings, towers and walls are removeable from the board. So the board stores away easily and the towers and walls are all side by side on a shelf in the garage. Because they are removeable, I have incorporated certain pieces into my next castle plans. I'm not sure if I will ever use this exact set up again, but we'll see. To help streamline the mass battle, I put little number stickers on the mini's to identify each one and then put together a one page summary for each squad. The damage was pre-set and the HP's were the same within the squad. Each squad sheet had a picture of the mini up in the corner to help the player remember who was who. I have all of the sheets in excel if anyone is interested. There are a few things I would do differently in the next one to speed up game play, but otherwise it was a lot of fun.  | | | |

Think your username is teh bomb by the way!
The castle I have in my pic is just the GamesWorkshop one. I picked it up rediculously cheap as part of a 'box o stuff', a while back.
