Hey all,

I am new to the boards and rather new to D&D Minis, though I have played the RPG since the early 80's, when I was 6!Â

My brother is huge into D&D minis and I am looking for help building a couple of good warbands to play against him and maybe tourneys in the future as well.

My two questions are the following:

Can a Githyanki Heavy Vlaakith warband be viable??  I like the Vlaakith GDK combo, I think that is totally cool, especially since the githyanki have been my favorite monsters ever since I saw them on the cover of the very first Fiend and Folio way back!

Second, Is a Warforged themed warband viable??  I have searched the boards somewhat, but find myself getting lost.

Any help with either of these two bands would be great.

I am looking to play Epic 500pts, rather than the normal 200, but I appreciate list help for both.

Thanks alot

Chappy P!

Welcome to Maxminis! I hope you stay for a while and have a good time while you're here.

1) Vlaakith is quite cool, but, sadly, the Githyanki Fighter isn't a very competitive piece even when under her command. The Githyanki Dragon Knight is a great piece as well; however, I think that the GDK is better served with different allies than Vlaakith. However, in Sealed play, the two form a very powerful core. In 500-point play, it's quite possible to use them both, in a variety of combinations, and I think that they might fare well. I haven't played either of them in 500-point play yet, though, so I do not have much experience to draw from.

2) I do not think that a Warforged theme is viable in 500-point play, but I think that it might be viable in 200-point play. I haven't found an ideal solution, and I think that sticking too closely to a theme will hurt your chances in tournament play, but, warforged are quite nice pieces sometimes and so I don't want to discourage you.

For warforged 200 points I'd go with something involving the Lord of Blades, Warforged bodyguard, warforged scout, and some combination of warforged heroes/barbarians.

A big huge WELCOME to the Boards and this place we call our 2nd home - Maxmini's!  I hope you enjoy all of the different topics, ideas, and discussion here.  It also a great place to try and trade and or sell  minis (DDM, SWA, AAA, and DB), especially some of the older ones.Â

As to your warband ideas.Â

A Vlaakith / Githyanki warband sounds fun in pratice, but the Githyanki Fighter is a pretty poor skirmish piece.  Maybe one in your warband might work, but no more than that.  Now Vlaakith and the Githyanki Dragon Rider is a serious combination, but sadly in a 200 point constructed warband that is 177 of your points and only leaves you with 23 points to fill out the rest of your warband.Â

I'm hoping that the next set, Unhallowed, will have some nice pieces that work with Vlaakith - either Undead (which the set is supposed to have), or some more useful Githyanki.Â

A completely Warforged (Construct) warband is now very possible, thanks to the Lord of Blades.  Try building some warbands around him, play them, and have fun DDMing.Â

This is a great community of folks here who are always willing to lend a hand to a fellow gamer.Â

Good luck, have fun, and enjoy.Â

Cheers.Â

Hi, welcome on.

I tried a Warforged band last night.
LOB
2x WF Barbarians
2x WF Scouts
3x Kobold Miners

It worked alot better than I thought it would.

As to Vlaakith, yeah not yet. Next set. Now if she could bring in the Gith Renegade, that would be hot.

Two trades completed!! (Krush,Hides From Hurricanes)
Champion of the Aaracokra
Herald Of Snig Goblin King
