| | A while ago I was lucky enough to receive a VINYL playmat for Dreamblade. It sits flat, stays in place and lives in a nice little tube.
Wondering... will Wizards consider giving us these kinds of materials for use with DDM? They really are ALOT better than the folded paper maps. | | ScruffyRanger's Promo Page! Check it out here!

| | I would love to see vinyl maps they would be sooo much better. The only problem I see is they charge $15 for 2 double sided maps and a mini campaign(Fantastic Locations). I can imagine that $15+ would be charged per map if they where one sided vinyl. | | Champion of the Brainstealer Dragon Desert of Desolation Called Shot: Medium Brown Dragon ***Winner of WBC VIII and XII*** | |

| | The Dreamblade map retails for $30. I can't imagine it would go for less. I is a much nicer playing surface, though. | | Completed trades: blackthorne, Drakkengi,Thorgrin, Ironfist Boulderbender x2, ckissee, nasamonkey, Username, Star, Ace13 x3, emontedodger x2, Drconveyor, church, Joeyb, Sir Bozak The Damned, Xeromod, the other guy x2, Qucalion of Celene, Dagaron x2, berus316, qillan_dvra, AshloreDarkShadow

*sigh* worse than I thought. I agree it is much better but I don't forsee myself paying $30 for 1 map. | | Champion of the Brainstealer Dragon Desert of Desolation Called Shot: Medium Brown Dragon ***Winner of WBC VIII and XII***

| | Paper is fine with me because I can laminate the maps after I buy them. It stays cost-effective that way (since it's just $3 per map to laminate), and laminations takes a dry-erase marker quite nicely if I need to mark up my maps. | | "Before God we are all equally wise - and equally foolish." - Albert Einstein Champion of Myopic Half-Orcs Winner, WBC X | |

| Welps, I'm happy to hear I'm not alone in thinking this is one area of DDM that could use some improvement. The miniatures are great and getting better all the time but the paper maps kinda drop the ball. I would pay $30-$40 for a vinyl map, for sure. I would like to see The Lost Temple (cool for duels to the death when not wanting to worry about victory points) and perhaps The Fane of Lolth produced in vinyl. Both of these I would run out like a mad man to spend $40 on, mercilessly striking down any who stood in my way. If it can be done for Dreamblade, why not D&D? I'd say the customer base is 100,000 times that of Dreamblade. I think some flashy maps would also help in the retention of new players, seeing the game for the first time. | | ScruffyRanger's Promo Page! Check it out here!

Kinkos could scan a map for ~$20 and then print it for ~$48...
Just be prepared to get into an argument with the people at Kinko's about "Permission granted to copy for personal use". Went there about two months ago to copy some D+D stuff and had to argue with three different people about this.
I think that it's great that they're concerned about copyright laws but they were seriously pissing me off that day.

Any teacher supply store (I go to Alphabet Station) should be able to laminate maps for ~$3 each using 3mil (superthin) laminate.
Officemax, Office Depot, and Staples can also laminate but are often more expensive depending on who's working in the copy center (when I worked at Officemax we charged $1/linear foot...last time I went in they wanted $1/square foot).
3 mil lamination is superior to 5 mil (or higher) because it's so thin that when you roll the maps they unroll nicely. Thicker lamination tends to resist unrolling. | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Yes I did notice that. When I went to Kinkos I wanted to make black and white copies of the battle map from the DMG. (I had an adventure with lots of maps and wanted to draw them out ahead of time to reduce down time during the game) Next to the copyright information on the map it clearly states that permission is granted to copy for personal use. I still had a problem. The first guy said he couldn't copy it - it's copyrighted. I showed him the personal use thing. He got another guy, I showed him as well. Then they got another guy and we had a discussion about how many copies constituted "Personal Use". They decided it was less than 100 copies - which was fine as I only wanted 5. Ten minutes of this and they finally agreed to do it.
My point was that I had a bad experience at Kinko's trying to copy something that had permission to copy for personal use. | | Champion of Gromph Baenre
