March: Unhallowed Booster Packs You already know this is a 60-miniature expansion that favors the undead. You saw the Pseudodragon and Beholder Lich back in December. Last month, you saw the Shield Guardian and Stone Giant Runecarver. This month, I've got two more really cool minis to show. I never have stats or anything like that, so no point in wasting time with detailed descriptions of what you can see, so here's the relevant information from the bottom of the base: the (clear-ish plastic) Caller in Darkness is Uncommon, the (nicely detailed) Pentifex Monolith is Rare.

You'll find more Unhallowed minis in Steve Schubert's Miniatures Previews articles on the D&D minis page, and exclusive coverage in Dragon Magazine.

| That's the first preview that has made me think, "cool". That Caller in Darkness looks like a really really nice mini. I don't know if I'd ever use it...but it might be one of those deals where I create an encounter just so I could bust out the mini.

We've seen the Caller in Darkness earlier today but this is a much better picture. I agree with Oryan - I will create an encounter to use that mini, or several of those mini's since it's uncommon. I like this mini. It's cool just because of all the faces on it.
And we've seen the Pentifex Monolith before too - but it's nice to have an official pic posted so we can talk about it. Honestly I think that it's a well painted mini with a good sculpt except for the sword. I can't get over the sword. I suppose it's good for the Final Fantasy fans and hopefully mini's like this will encourage more new players. Just not a big fan of it. It's like a D+D caricature. | | Champion of Gromph Baenre

| The Sword looks fine. Blade is a bit thick but it doesnt look bad. This is probably the coolest PC fighter/paladin mini ever.

| Thank you, Mat, for putting up the article today.
I'm quite sure many will be happy with the Caller being uncommon. It looks like it took a lot of work to make that look like it does and for it to be uncommon surprised me.
Star described the Pentifex very well: well-painted charicature. I, too, think it would have been much improved with a smaller sword. | | "Look to God and live." Alma 37:47 Vindicated Champ of Hippogriff (Arcadian Hippogriff) and Uncommon Horse

| Personally the Caller in the Darkness looks a bit "dreamblady" to me. The Eberron monster in the last preview gave me the same feeling. Overall I'm not entirely excited about a lot of the Unhallowed minis. There aren't many rares that I want (I collect for use in my RPG games only) but I might still buy a case to get the Rares that I want and use the others in trades.

| Caller in Darkness looks better than I would have expected, but I still don't really care for the mini. Just doesn't seem like a good creature to make into a mini to me. I agree with the folks saying it looks like a dreamblade mini, it's a look that really doesn't appeal to me.
Pentifex Monolith is a nice looking mini, in my opinion. I don't mind the size of the sword so much. I don't think its totally absurd in a fantasy setting, given the availability of magic items that enhance strength and all that. Double weapons that are inherently impractical bug me a lot more. This is actually one of my favorite rares in the set so far. | | Champion of the Revenant Knight of the Elf Duskblade Complete Trades: Oni, Kidkach, Melrune, callidusx3

| The Caller looks cool. I'd like to use it as some kind or oracle or something. The fighter looks good too. What the heck is a Pentifex Monolith? A monolith is a stone monument, so I don't get it...

It's funny that these two creatures came out years before Dreamblade yet describe it as if they were derived from it. It all depends on what you see first, I guess.

| Caller In Darkness is surpringly pleasing. I'm actually rather happy to see one made. I'll even go so far as to be pleased that it's uncommon. Since it's a monster none of my players know (we don't use much in the way of psionics) I can use it however I want. That'd even make a pretty spiffy Large Ghost (or undead thingamajigger like a poltergeist). Spiffy
The Pentifex Monolith has both an annoying name and an uninteresting sculpt. It's another guy in heavy armor with sword and shield (albeit in very nicely detailed armor) of which I already have several dozen variants. Nice to see PC-likely sculpts as rares

The caller is an awesome looking creature, and great for an uncommon (I'll be using it as a Large Corrupted Air Elemental as well).
The Pentifex looks better than in the greenback picture.
great stuff!

I think the Caller in Darkness is CE. I'm not sure about the Pentifex (I don't have Magic Incarnum).Â

| | I like both minis, neither is an absolute must have but both are good. I don't think Pentifex looks too anime, it is a big sword but apart from that he looks pretty normal to me. Th caller in the dark looks great, not sure if I'll use it for that specific monster but can easily proxy for a large ghost or evil air creature (as others have said) plus it looks so damn cool. | | | |
