Just picked up the G. Blue and have only played it once so far. I played a 600 pt match with my wife. I played:

G.B.D.
Snig, Worg Rider
Acheron Goblin (x4)
Kobold Monk
Dragonwrought Kobold
Greenspawn Sneak (x2)
Goblin Blackblade (Snig's minion)

She played:

Balor (Epic)
Mountain Troll
Hill Giant Barbarian
Gnoll Barbarian

My dragon (and a very lucky Acheron Goblin) won the game. The Balor's cleave utterly destroyed my goblins, but not before they managed to take out the gnoll and do a good chunk of damage to the HGB. Basically, it was a blow-out. GBD had 465 hp left at the end of the game. It was a very fun game (for me), and I can't wait to play Big Blue again.

Any ideas for next time?

Play the GBuD against that warband without the goblin support. Even with one creature you have an activation advantage and some people wouldn't even fear facing that four piece 600pt warband with a standard 500 point warband.

So, more activations on the side of the Balor? I see what you're saying. It was a pretty one-sided game. I suppose we were just making sure that the other team had a chance to at least hit the dragon, and my collection is limited to about 100 minis, only about 6 of which have +17 or better attack.

It should also be noted that when we play in a non-tournament environment, we don't use Morale saves, we play to the death. If we did, this game would have been over much sooner.

First, the icons are generally stronger than their suggested point costs of 500 and 1,000 points. To give your wife any chance against a Gargantuan Blue Dragon, play the GBD alone as suggested above. Then, give her about 700 pts to work with, and you'll still probably win a much closer match. If you have them, try to give her figures that are immune to electricity, as this will help a lot against the GBD's breath weapon. If you don't have them, then use the uncommon Dragonmark Heir of Deneth to give electricity immunity to one of her key figures - but she'll likely have to play LG or LE, unless you have a Storm Silverhand.

Suggestion 1 - replay the match, but switch teams

Suggestion 2 - repeat as necessary

Hey, I didn't mean to crush her so badly, but it wasn't exactly her first game. She knew the risks. When we set this up, it didn't look so bad......couple of extra goblins couldn't hurt, right? We'll definitely play the GBD again (her turn next).
Before this game, she was leading in total wins in D&D minis. We are now tied in total wins with D&D and SWM.
We are actually working on a feasible way to combine the two games. Check out that thread under the Star Wars Minis section to look at a few ideas that have come up.

Why don't you make it face the Gargantuan Black Dragon? Two evil gargantuan foul beasts facing each other! Law versus Chaos! Lightning against Acid and destruction all around. If you ever do it, post a thread detailing that battle.
