| July: Night Below Booster Packs Last month, I showed you the Kobold Trapmaker and the Frost Giant Jarl. This month, I couldn't lay my hands on production minis to look at, and we're still coordinating who gets to show what. But rather than skip a month, I thought I'd include a couple minis I could build a case for showing -- a couple critters that'll come in handy for those of you trekking around in the dank darkness (like, say, around the Drow of the Underdark) -- two new frog/fish monsters (that seem like something out of the nontentacles section of Lovecraft's mind): the (uncommon) Kuo-Toa Whip and (common) Kuo-Toa Hunter.
 | | | Kuo-Toa Whip | Kuo-Toa Hunter |
If you want to see and learn about more Night Below minis, go to the D&D Minis page to check out Steve Schubert's Miniatures Previews articles, and pick up a copy of Dragon magazine to see their exclusive minis coverage. | | "Mutton yesterday, mutton today, and blimey, if it don't look like mutton again tomorrer." | Probably just the photo but look like different shade of colour to the harbinger one. (wow its been a while) Both look pretty funky | | "Mutton yesterday, mutton today, and blimey, if it don't look like mutton again tomorrer." | I'm most pleased to see both a new Kuo-Toa and a Kuo-Toa whip. I'm very happy with the Common and Uncommon rarities too.
If I understand correctly, the painting standards on these models are much better than what the actual production models will look like though. Correct?  Olaf the Stout | | My Trade Thread 12 Trades Completed - Bert the Troll, Keoki, elf_ranger, kalle, Dropbear, twilightraven, SkYlyn3, Monolthicus (x2), qillan_dvra, xuthal, MMT 2007 My Reference Thread | |

So these are the actual production paint jobs? If so, cool. They still look a little good for uncommon and common though.
What was the fiasco with the Frost Dwarf about. I only got into DDM at the end of last year so I missed that.

| About friggin time! I love em, hope the detail on the production minis's will be close to these. Rarities are perfect.
But what's this about frog-like? Bullywugs are frog-like, Kuo-toa should be fishy. Nevertheless, both look so much better than the Harbinger ones I got (trade fodder!)

If you read the drow preview that has a nice bit on the Kuo-Toa too. Sounds like they're really loving the Lovecraft horror angle. Can't rmeber if they always have (in MM). | The Kuo-toa are nice, don't get me wrong
BUT: They've never had a mesoamerican motif before.
Why do they have a mesoamerican motif?
They end up looking like GW's lizardmen
Also, none of the Kuo-toas produced so far have the equipment that they're supposed to have in the MM, which includes a sheild, so they can use their "sheild coated with goo" ability.

| | I don't really mind the choice of weapon on the common being the same as the first kuo-toa. It would have been cool seeing one with a sticky shield and a one handed melee wpn of some kind, but no big deal. | Nice. So far so good on this set. Only one figure I have no interest in (big surprise, its an Eberron piece that can't be used in any other setting). Even if those paint jobs are substantially better than what we will see, its an improvement over Harbinger.
I wonder if we will see a svirfneblin in this set? Maybe a female duergar (we seem to be real light on female humanoids)? One of the things I worried about when I heard about another underdark set was seeing another half dozen drow. Hopefully we will keep that around two to three.
