| | I also thought NB was going to be a starter set. So far each four sets we had a starter, but it seems not this time. It seems Desert of Desolation will be the one with new rules for mounted minis. | | Champion of the Molydeus Vindicated Blood War Called Shot: Cornugon (Horned Devil) Icons Called Shot: Tarrasque Vindicated Dungeon of Dread Called Shot: Mind Flayer Against the Giants Called Shot: Uncommon Fire Giant Demonweb Called Shot: Myrlochar Feywild Called Shot: Molydeus "Sé que me acusan de soberbia, y tal vez de misantropía, y tal vez de locura. | | Yeah, Shoe said that NB is not a starter set when people thinking there was a pattern (every four sets) asked about it. He pointed us to the product announcement at WotC, which makes no mention of it being a starter. | | "Look to God and live." | He said as well that no new starter will be made if there are not enough rule changes to warrant it. With the latest errata online, I don't think Desert oD. will be a starter either,

| The four set thing was a deceiving pattern. It's a good example of why you need more than two data points for any trend. | | Completed trades: blackthorne, Drakkengi,Thorgrin, Ironfist Boulderbender x2, ckissee, nasamonkey, Username, Star, Ace13 x3, emontedodger x2, Drconveyor, church, Joeyb, Sir Bozak The Damned, Xeromod, the other guy x2, Qucalion of Celene, Dagaron x2, berus316, qillan_dvra, AshloreDarkShadow

| | I think that as long as Wardrums starters are readily available and there aren't any drastic rules changes there won't be another starter set. I'd like a new starter set just for new maps. | | Champion of Gromph Baenre | |

| Hello,
I think that from the cryptic comments that Shoe and Lidda have made in various places (which I can't find at the moment), that we might see things go the way Star Wars Minis have gone lately. That is, the next starter will be set independent. SWM is launching Alliance and Empire at the end of this month, but the next SWM starter releases at the end of June as a single unit, separate from Alliance and Empire. It seems to have fixed minis and they are older sculpts (someone will correct me if I am wrong I hope).
Something to think about.
Then again, perhaps Desert of Desolation is the next starter set. I thought that I had heard, however, that it was not a starter set either from one of the scoops/leaks.
Cheers

| All I can do is guess how it refers to maybe Happy Days with the shark-jumping episode without properly thinking things through and just taking whatever results come out of it, good or bad.
As for NB being a starter, while I'd like there to be another one as soon as possible, I realize there is definitely some fine-tuning that needs to be done as alluded to earlier in this thread.
WD starters are getting ridiculous here where I am. Nobody is buying them and I'm getting sick of looking at the same products on the shelves every week which is because of the following options:
A) Not going to ever get off the shelves due to the fact that no matter how old the product is, the prices are NOT going down. Granted, they're not increasing, but I'd like to be able to justify a cost in the mid-20s range (for WD starters, the boosters are about $18, not including tax).
B) Flop sets. So far, WotDQ is the only real applicant here. There are nothing but Nightmare boosters here AND they cost about the same as a starter (also, no price reduction from regular WotDQ boosters).
C) Simply not interesting. I could probably buy the last booster or two (maybe three, I'll have to check) of Abberations but what is the likelyhood I'll actually get something I want? Unless I start pulling Chuuls (a good example of an RPG alternative as well as decent mini in it's own right) it will be essentially wasted money.
D) Availability. Or rather, I should say, I lack thereof. I finally went to my LGS a couple of days ago and I saw a very large empty space by the rest of the minis. Apparently, in about two days, they sold their entire stock of Unhallowed. They are mostly a book store (Uncle John's Bathroom Reader, how did I ever live without you?) so they don't order many minis in the first place so I actually understand how people could buy them all in that short amount of time. The empty space on the shelf mocked me. After all, I waited for so bloody long to finally buy at LEAST one booster of UH only to be disappointed like this.
Sorry about that. My rant is now over. But nevertheless, should NB have been a starter, I would have been able to ignore all of this. To sum it all up: a NB starter would actually sell far more easily and give WotC more reason to pump out the high quality minis and surprises we unfortunately have seemingly become dependant on, it would block out the bad memories of specific aspects (no pun intended) of DDM that left a bad taste in our mouths, it would provide more variety even if it did not sell more, and lastly, if it was the new starter then that would mean that gaming stores would definitely invest a moderate to heavy amount in replacing WD and would mean I don't have to practically camp outside the store to get what I want and go at a more comfortable pace of which to buy minis at. | | Champion of the Prismatic Golem

| Jumping the shark: (quoting from http://www.jumptheshark.com) (Also see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumping_the_shark) "It's a moment. A defing moment when you know your favorite television show has reached it's peak. That instant you know from now on... it's all downhill. Some call it the climax. We call it jumping the shark"
From the episode in happy days where Fonzie jumps over a shark on waterskis.

I guess in terms of DDM I worry about mounted rules being more gimmick than substance. Other games have jump the shark momments (espically collectable ones imo) where everything before hand is all good but after the jump, it's downhill. Probaably be a good thread to list some shark jumps in collectable games...
I also think overdoing the terrian effects is getting closer to that jump point, but thats more a personal taste thing. | | "Mutton yesterday, mutton today, and blimey, if it don't look like mutton again tomorrer."
