Wow, jackpot. I love a good surprise. Like to see a better shot of that dire tiger. Be funny if this was all staged.

You gotta love China, you can get sweatshop labor to create all sorts of plastic things for a pennies. But they are also the biggest producer of counterfeit goods in the world. Have whole factories and villages geared to counterfeiting. If there was a little less creativity required we might just see counterfeit D&D minis. Somehow issues with security and trust in that environment doesn't surprise me.

I feel sorry for that guy though, they are mighty tough on crime there.

They seem to have been derived from Vance's Deodands, who were sort of like ghoulish black things with soft voices who would suavely and civilly explain how they wanted to eat your flesh, and pounce on you and do it.

Like to see a better shot of that dire tiger.

See greyhaze's site.  There is another thread with additional pictures with better pictures of two dire tigers.

does anybody have a link to the ebayed set? i would like to see what it is going for.. i would be surprised if other then being fired if anything will happen to the dude who got the set thats just my two cents

Going by the ask the seller question thing, the seler is claiming not to know they are not meant to be released.
So I imagine that the seller will claim they didnt know where stolen good etc.

The seller is also collecting a lot of email address, no doubt for future theft driven sales as well.

Also interesting is there is 88 pcs with 21 stat cards in one auction, the other might be similar, and definatly the seller isnt sure you will get the right card.

~

The set does look amazing to me.
I will probably ghet more than I intended, espically as I have a longer chance to see what I am saving up for.

There are many great monster minis in this set, and I'm excited about several of them.  But one of the things I'm most excited about is the common "prisoner" mini. I think that will probably see more use in my games than any other in this set. These will be great to use in adventures where the players must rescue a prisoner or a group of enslaved humans from goblins, underdark slavers, brigands, etc.

as long as he hasn't signed a NDA all he has to say is that he found them in the garbage and took them home OR if he was mean and vindictive just say that jim/john or sue gave them to him and he didn't have a clue they were stolen just to screw them over

Seems like any kind of product with a release date gets leaked anymore.  I will say I love seeing what is going to come out in the set already, because it's really got me excited.

Truly I say to you: Leaks are only harmful if the product is bad. In that case, WotC would have only themselves to blame.

I have to disagree with you.  Spoiling a future release can hurt an upcoming product even if that product is great.  It interfers with marketing plans.  For instance, a game magazine that was promised an exclusive sneak peak may decide to not cover the release if the sneak peak has already been distributed through other channels.  Fewer write ups means less exposure and less exposure means fewer sales.

In my opinion, WOTC is the one that is taking the risks with each expansion.  It is there capital, their intellectual property, and their livelyhoods on the line.  They are entitled to roll out there product in the way that they see fit.  So far, WOTC hasn't asked anyone to buy any expansion blind.  Before a set is released they post the full set on the web site and distribute posters to the game shops.  They aren't trying to trick anyone into buying a bad set.

It's hard to preorder cases without full knowledge of a set, though, in order to get the cases as soon as possilble after a release. I'm not talking full knowledge ot stats, but knowledge of miniatures and what they look like.

My fave FLGS takes preorders very early, so that's what I always have to do usually, I only get to see a few previews before ordering.
Although knowing the setlist very early spoils the fun a little bit, it's a good thing to know it to choose the right number of cases.

I agree that already knowing the setlist this early generally spoils a little of the fun / anticipation, but this time this leak has me even more excited to see the rest of the previews and the stats.Â

For me I do not preorder cases as my local FLGS gets in plenty to get my 3 cases from.Â

I'm more interested from the sapect of what impact might there be on the meta?  Like last years Firebelchers.Â

Knowing the set so early removes the fun with speculating on side-pictures of the box boosters which still haven't been seen, by the way.

Wow I didn't think this was serious when I first looked at it, boy was I wrong! I thought at the time the WoDQ greenback thing was big.
While I feel bad for WotC's marketing plan/build tension before release deal it was still interesting to take a peak.

Wow! This I find unbelievable. A brick and mortar store, that also does online sales, bought the first auction. Are they out of their minds? They have to know it is stolen merchandise. What could they possibly be planning to do with it? This really just blows my mind.

The end of the auction came faster than I expected (well, I wasn't really thinking about the dates). The fact that it was a leak was so significant that I could almost forget that it was also an ebay auction that people were bidding on. Now I wonder if those stat cards are ever going to surface.

I echo your sentiments SYB...with eBay's policies on releasing user info to law enforcement agencies do they really think that they won't be prosecuted? What I'm surprised about is the number of vultures...oops I meant people that bid on them...

You have to prove HE stole them OR knew they were stolen he could say he found them in the garbage or were givin them by his boss he could say he didn't even know what they are and just looked on ebay and say that they had SOME value and sold them...unless WOTC planned the leak but hey whatever...

come on, dont just make a monster and call it a devil, find a theme.

Oh, no, you didn't just say that.....

As a Planescape DM I must stand up for our precious fiends!

Grab yourself a copy of the 2e PS book called Faces of Evil - The Fiends. Then tell me there's no theme to them

Every single version of a Baatezu, Tanar'ri, Yugoloth, & Gehreleth has a specific role in their society. They each serve a different purpose. Each race has a ranking system and each creature strives to reach the top of that ranking order. Each version of each race has it's own personality (except for maybe the Least ranked fiends).

Next, read up on the Blood War (and no, I don't mean the DDM set). Each fiend has it's own purpose within the Blood War.

Man, if you think fiends are boring, bland, and all the same, you must be using them as simply random encounters. They aren't just some monster that's roaming around looking for food. They are terrors with an agenda that may each be over a thousand years old. Wow, you're really missing out on some cool stuff if you've never familiarized yourself with fiendish society beyond them being evil monsters for PC's to slay.

It looks like he may be selling some unreleased dreamblade minis as well. They don't look familiar to me.

In his question and answers he said he bought them off the streets and some of the colors are fading?

Is there a gallery of Anvilborn minis available yet?  Last I checked, the gallery in the Dreamblade section of WotC did not include that set.  EDIT:  I just found the "encyclopedia" download that has pictures and stats for all.  There is nothing even remotely interesting to me in that set.

The auctions show as:  Listing # has been removed or is no longer available.

Don't know if that's something the seller could do, or if it means WOTC, or someone else managed to convince ebay to pull the listing.  Since some folks are talking about who won one of the auctions, seems like it may have been too late, though WOTC may have a better chance of getting cooperation from US authorities to recover the 'stolen' property when it arrives here than they would have getting the pieces recovered in China.   Pure speculation on my part of course (this is the Internet after all )

Anyone know how much the auctions went for?Â

Last time I peeked the auctions had pushed over US$500.

That's a lot of money to pony up for the chance to have miniatures 1.5 months before their release. Particularly considering the possible legal ramifications.

I'll rather happily pick up my minis after the release date. Two months will go by very quickly.

I was surprised how cheap they ended up going for (it seemed to be same as Idzy, around $200 USD).

How do you know it went to a bricks and mortor store? I only saw "bidder #1" etc. Was there more than just two auctions?

Well, the bidder for the higher amount of the two auctions had an ebay username linked to an ebay store that linked to the brick and mortar store, if I understand it correctly.
