It'll beninteresting to see if this is good enough.  Seems people call the price crazy until they want to trade it themselves.Â

I think it is actually a cool thing about DDM that a rare like LBD is only $20-$30, or about the cost of two boosters.  It says a lot about the percieved value of the sets as a whole that most people don't think three boxes of random pieces are worth less than a very desirable piece.

With most of the other collectable games I've played the skew was much more in favor of the very desirable rares.

I think it means that there aren't as many "junk" pieces in DDM.

I think this is quite true, especially if you compare the game with a collectble card game like Magic. The comparison isn't entirely fair, of course, since our minis have specific dual usage, but even "duds" like Wrackspawn can have their use in RPG, whereas a really bad card in Magic (I can't name a contemporary one since it's over 10 years since I played) like Marsh Gas are barely worth the paper they're printed on.

I think there was a special d20 dice with NB logo with the card, so the epic Raistlin card & d20 dice for 40$.

Yes, it is a special dice and an epic card.  But the two together simply are not worth that much to many people.

Just remember: E-bay IS a marketplace. That IS the current value of things.

The Raslin card probibally will go down significantly in the next few months, but that is the current price of it for those that want it RIGHT NOW.

Same for the LBD - they're already going down in price. Before NB it was impossible to get one for less than 30 (or you had to be REALLY lucky or find a sucker). Now with Shadow Dragons out and about - LBDs are in less of a major demand and they're going down.

Those saying that 'ebay is wrong' are incorrect. Ebay allows for the real price to be found for an item. Those selling it for less might as well be giving money away as well. That's the point of collectables - even though it costs you $5 to enter a tournament to get a card/dice for free - there's some people that can't be there and they'll pay more to pretend that they were

It isn't really the current value of things. It is the high end of the current value, as those are the amounts people are willing to pay. These are a small portion of potential buyers. Just because some people will pay that higher amount does not mean it is the value. There are others who may have interest but who will not pay that much--since it isn't worth it. I personally don't want an epic Raistlin nor a dice. But I know that there are others out there that have interest.

I don't think anyone was saying that the ebay prices are wrong--more that it's quite silly that people are shelling out that much for those items.

Yes and no. It *is* the value people are willing to pay, and what people are willing to part them for, though. Even though there might 10.000 people all thinking "Raistlin Epic ain't worth more than $5" - if there are none for sale at that price, it's value is obviously more on the open market than $5. It is a classic example of supply and demand. Few are willing to sell, lots of people wnat to buy. Those few that are sold will reach what many people belive are "ridiculous prices". But that is what one is worth on the market.

If voting could really change things, it would be illegal.

I think the price drop has already begun, btw. A few days ago on eBay you could only find one or two Raistlin Epic + d20 auctions and right now there are like 10 of them.

Maybe. Ebay prices are a strange beast. I have sold things on ebay at the same time that the same product has been offered by others and have sometimes gotten significantly less or more than what an average price was. The swings are weird.

Well, it may be the current value on ebay. But that doesn't make it the current value everywhere,

True, but at least here in Sweden, and I suppose in many other places, it is really the only place to realistically get them from.
