| November: Desert of Desolation Booster Packs
It's been a month -- that's probably enough time for you to have gotten a good handle on your Night Belowminiatures. Even if you're still hunting down the choice minis you need to complete your collection, or to amass an army, you're still going to want to see the minis that're on the way in November's release of Desert of Desolation. It has been a long time since Harbingerdelivered the promise of prepainted plastic to our gaming tables, so it has been equally long since we had a chance to buy a booster pack with an Umber Hulk lurking inside. (And this one's actually umber.) And we've had a few cool female drow spellcasters, but they just keep getting better. Take a look.

If you wanna get a look at more Desert of Desolationminis -- and I know you do -- you should check out Steve Schubert's Miniatures Preview Articles he posts over on the D&D Minis page. He'll not just show you the mini, he can give you some insight into the mechanics, strategies, and other Skirmish-relevant info. (He's also taking some toys with him to GenCon . . . if you wanna see 'em first-hand.)

I agree and I have the all of the early sets completed (including two Umber Hulks).
The new Umber Hulk looks very nice. It's umber (which the original Umber Hulk wasn't) and it's hulking (which the original Umber Hulk also wasn't). My guess is rare since the sculpt is complex.
The Drow Priestess also looks nice. I'd be unimpressed with her as a rare (two color paint scheme) but not surprised (after the medium humanoid meh rares in Night Below).
Perhaps we should call Desert of Desolation "Harbinger Resculpts" (Drow Priestess, Umber Hulk, Mummy....).

Hopefully the umber hulk is uncommon. It could be. Though the drow spider lady is nice, I don't really care what the rarity is, since I have so many drow. | | "Look to God and live." Alma 37:47 Vindicated Champ of Hippogriff (Arcadian Hippogriff) and Uncommon Horse

Okay. If you saw this as an investment, and you are worried, dump him in the next month. If money is the most important thing, get you money now. Or ride it out. Use this as information to see how figures fluxuate. But right now you're gambling and sometimes that means you're going to lose. It may not be as bad as you think because to collectors a new resculpt is different than the original so there is a chance price won't fluctuate.
For your own sanity, because this is going to happen again and again in the future, forget about investments. If you want to make money, there are better and surer ways (stocks, RothIRA, bonds, 401K, prosper.com). Just figure all the money you spent is gone and any you get if/when you do sell them is gravy. Collectable games are notoriously fickle, and only one really has ever had legs to make it worth while.

| The Umber Hulk looks sweet. I know that there are a couple of people on the boards clamoring for an uncommon Umber Hulk but there's just no way that mini isn't rare.
The Drow priestest is ok. It has the downfall of being one of several drow priestest minis - so even if it was an amazing sculpt I wouldn't be overly impressed. | | Champion of Gromph Baenre

| | They likely won't do anything Dark Sun-related, as there's never been an official WotC 3.X conversion (I don't think the Dungeon/Dragon conversion from a couple of years ago counts). It seems like DDM only reflects current products, which is why Eberron sees so much action, and Planescape/Dragonlance/Dark Sun/insert-2nd-edition-setting-here doesn't. | | "Clearly a case of too many hunchbacks and not enough mad scientists..." | |

| The umber hulk is awesome. I'm fine with it being a rare--it's not like you usually encounter more than one or two of these at a time, anyway (in D&D that is).
I'd be shocked if it had the same stats as the original, since the original was (a) Difficult (an ability that's since been phased out), and (b) had the only confusion effect in the game that, if you failed the initial save, you were confused for the rest of the skirmish.
I still like to dust off the original Umber Hulk from time to time for skirmish play. Run it with a Cursed Spirit, an Orc Wardrummer (to boost saves), and possibly a Troglodyte Thug, and that confusion gaze can get pretty scary. Not tier 1 by any means, but still a fun piece to run.

| | Both look good IMHO. I kind of like the weird arms crossed confidence pose of the drow priestess. It's not the most dynamic of posses but I still think it looks pretty good. As for the umber hulk there is nothing I can say that hasn't already been said so I will leave it at wow. | | | |
