And what about the hydra? I have been waiting for it since giants legend was released.It is a typical monster very cool looking and not impossible to beat for the Main player characters in a RPG campaing.I hope new 4 ed will crete it (and make a decent skirmish piece if possible)
Well, they did say there was a huge set coming out. If they could an Aspect of Tiamat, this is not out of the realm of possibility.

| Considering we have a Death Slaad and the descriptions of Gray and death slaadi are exactly the same, I don't see the point other than getting a new gray/death slaad at some point (allong with an Uncommon red and Blue first). The death slaad even specifically calls this out in the combat text. End of first paragraph after the verbatim description: "They look exactly like a gray slaadi." | |

| Basilisk, Gorgon, Cyclops made the cut. The only creature from the salamander/xorn/arrowhawk/tojanida symetry that made it was the salamander - in several flavors - all large.
Oddly Cockatrice isn't in the 4e MM but it looks like it's in AtG anyway. | |

This may sound odd, but it might be a hellhound... of course, it's about medium size and looks like it has yellow feathery wings, but who knows, it could be another Harpy. | Given Medusa, Basilisk, Bodak, and Gorgon made it - I think it is a cockatrice. No rules rationale not to include it.  Chain Golem isn't in 4e MM1 but we have good information it is in the set. | |

| Quite a lot of the monsters in future and recent sets aren't in the 4e MM: gnaw demon, chain golem, shadow demon, spectral magelord (unless it's a very specialized ghost), shade knight (pretty sure this isn't a sub-member of another monster type), and the giant centipede.
My best guess is that while the bulk of new minis will support recent 4e rpg books, there will always be "new" monsters to encourage rpg-only players to buy the set so that they can get rpg stats for the monsters. | |

| Looking at last year's sets and even what we know of this year's sets, it seems to me that WotC is going with a mix of a few older (3.x and earlier), mostly new (4e), and a couple completely new (future creatures). Unhallowed 22 creatures 3.x but not 4e (so far) Night Below 23 creatures 3.x but not 4e (so far) DoD1 2 creatures 3.x but not 4e (so far) DoD2 1 creature 3.x but not 4e (so far), 2 completely new AtG is not known enough for numbers but it looks like 2 are 3.5 but not 4e yet. | |

Given the rampant slaughter of scared cows, I wouldn't bet on any creature, no matter how classic, making the 4e cut.
I know I'll probably never see the creature I'm championing, classic monster or not.

| Well I got my 4th ed. MOnstre Manual and sad to say Cockatrice, Rust Monsters, Will O wisps Blink Dogs did not make it in. That's a whole lot of creatures that coincidentally don't have minis yet either- interestingly enough for it being MM1 alot of creatures that DO have minis seem to have made it in that I did not expect- Krithicks, Shadar Kai, Rage Drakes etc.

I was surprised to see the venerable Fell Drake sneak in under an assumed name.
I do wish they could have gotten DoD2 or AtG to at least go with 100% 4th Edition Monsters.   | |
