| They are certainly hard to resell. I picked up a Red and a Black when I bought a huge DDM lot this summer and I ended up trading them away for a pittance after they collected dust for a while. I did get an additional $20 in cash toward postage for the red, but still it was hard to find anyone who wanted them. I kept a Blue for myself and have since ordered the White from Auggies for $20, but I wouldn't bother picking up any in the hope of resale or trade. In my opinion it just wasn't worth it...

| | From the start they have been over priced compared to comparable items like the McFarlane Dragons. And sadly they still have not learned from their mistakes as the price increase on the Blue and White Dragons has shown. | | Champion of Champions (for all races! even Gnomes ) Reference Thread Winnipeg Gryphon Cavalry Forums

| Personally I like the Gargantuan Dragons but I can't justify buying one at their current price.
My D&D game is at 10th level at the moment and it has taken 1 1/2 years to get there. It would take another year at least to get the PC's up to a level where they would face a dragon of that size. And when they finally did, they Dragon would probably only see a couple of sessions of use.
This means that I am basically using it as a display piece. I'm not prepared to pay that much for it just to be put on display. If the price comes down a little more (i.e. people are clearing them out) I might think about it. I really like the look of them, but I still wouldn't buy one at their current price.

| I'd like a Blue to go with Black and White, but already have the map from the DoD poster. I cannot justify the price, but would be more than happy to trade for one!
As for Big Red, his map's not even skirmish legal!

| Black's ,map not skirmrish legal map either [):] or white for that matter. The only dragon I didnt but was the Blue, and we dont get those nice posters with maps on here {pout} But I think they are overpriced. They were just acceptable on preorder price. And the quailty is not obvious for the price espically the Red and it's imfamous 1000 paint steps of red. I also dont think there's enough difference between them in skirmish, not costed well enough and illegal for Epic battle so there is a part of the market gone. (though we are having dragon brawls tomorrow night at shop - mostly they just are too look at RPG or Skirmish) The white is very nice though. The best of the lot espically consdering Drizzt and Wulfgar with it. ~ That same ad shows two for one star ship battle boosters. I'd probably get some at that price.

| | They are very niche unfortunately... and many people like the Macfarlane dragons better if they are only using them for RPG (or other cheaper dragons), and in skirmish they are very non-viable... so they are a product without a market currently... They are getting better quality (see big blue and icing death) but just when I saw how good icing death was macfarlane put out his ice dragon who pretty well puts icingdeath to shame... | | Rock Bottom Pricing: Arcane Archer 30, Centaur Hero 67, Human Cleric of Bane 25, Gold Champion 34, Death Knight 52, Goblin Blackblade 9, Silentwolf Goblin 7, Orc Raider 10, Dwarf axefighter 9, Healer 9, Thaskor 65, Aspect of Demogorgon 71, Ogre 9, Fire Giant 79, Human Wanderer 7, Drunken Master 18, Barghest 12, Longstider Barbarian 27, Longtooth Barbarian 22, Frost Giant 76, Ravenous Vampire 42, Large Earth Elemental: priceless | |

| With the "Buy One get One Free" I'm assuming that you'd be paying FULL MSRP for the first one. I don't know about everyone else but I picked them up at something a little better than 30% off (presumably everyone made money at that price) so getting two may offer some savings but not too much.
I also guess the "sale" is an attempt to see how much interest there may still be in the dragons as well as a chance to get rid of some excess inventory. | | | |

| | They are nice for display, but I agree, hard to sell. I have two of each, but more for looks than any use. I do figure I'll use them a lot long term (20-30 years more of gaming, perhaps more) but mostly, not a good investment. | I've got all 4 so far, will continue to collect any others that come out. I like the line, will probably never use any of them in rpg but they make great decorations and I like them.
MF dragons are nice enough looking but they aren't "DnD" dragons.

well said. I'd also add that McFarlane isn't producing a line of gaming books to go with them dragons, either

| Fin Fang Foom is might spendy
I picked up the gargantuan black, blue, and colossal red. After watching them sit essentially useless I decided against getting the gargantuan white. Gargantuan/Colossal minis are just too niche/one-shot to justify having more than one for RPG (frankly, I can use the 25-lb turkey as a proxy for anything else colossal) and skirmish-wise they're essentially useless (except for exhibition matches). | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. | I love the icons line and hope they keep them coming. So far I bough all of them. But Icingdeath was the only one I pre-ordered straight away. Usually it pays of to wait some time, since I got my red for 20 $, while blue and black were around 15.
They are very hard to use for the RPG, but when my group first encountered the red dragon, .... wow, why didn't I have a camera running?! ...of course I left them an option to escape without fighting. ;) I can hardly wait for them to be able to take on a gargantuan (white) dragon, though. This will be an awesome fight. Seven players in the group with a sorcerer level 12, fighter 13, barbarian 13, cleric 13, druid 10, paladin 12 and fighter 10/cleric 3. The dragon would be CR 19. Hmm...... :)
Other than for the RPG, the dragons are lovely for casual DDM games.
Speaking of the Icons: Any official word about Gargantuan Orcus? It's still listed on amazon.com for march 2008.
I'd love to hear how Icingdeath sold and wish for wizards to come to the conclusion, that the addition of "bonus" minis really helps to raise the profit.
