This topic keeps on popping up in a few of our other threads. So I'm curious, have any Maxminis Members bought singles from Paizo?
Here's what the CEO said about the pricing, taken from Olaf the Stout's post.
The prices on paizo.com are true market prices. About every month or so, I look at the mini sales. If a mini is just sitting there and not selling, I drop the price a bit. If the mini is selling out quickly, then I bump the price up a bit. If it seems to have steady but unremarkable sales, then they price stays where it is. In this way, the market forces of supply and demand on paizo.com dictate the prices for the minis. I don't bother comparing our prices to any other website or eBay. They are strictly driven by whether somebody is wiling to buy a miniature for the price listed here. So the prices are set by our customers. I think that is a pretty fair and democratic way to sell singles. :)
-Lisa
I myself have not bought any singles through them, there's lots of options out there on both Ebay and other online stores. It seems curious to me then that their prices have stayed as high as they are. | | Pathetic Earthlings. | Hi kritter and everyone,
Agree! Prices are way too high at Paizo. The best way to know the real value of a DDM is to look at a number of closing auctions on Ebay, and not the "Buy It Nows" which are a retail pricing.
hey kritter, have I ever told you how much I like your avatar. That is some kritter! :)

| Can the word democratic really be used in relation to supply and demand ... hmm :| I'm sure an actual democratic process would leave cheaper prices for the majorty... who wouldn't vote for cheaper.
Its seems more unfair as it is based on customers ignorance of the entire marketplace, or is that fair way for a company to use customers lack of knowlegde.
Note imo Paizo certaintly has the right to sell what they want for how much they want. But I'm sure glad they dont have a monoply of the minis market.
~
Its also hard to swallow that minis like an unbagged Drizzt at 180 USD are selling so steadily that they go up in price instead of down as claimed by Paizo. I call porkie pies on that. Or Unicorn for 75 USD.

| Maxminis members are certainly a more savvy bunch when it comes to DDM values, than the rest of the general public. This forum was, after all, primarily used for DDM trading during its infancy.
I can understand Paizo charging a little more because of their strong brand name, but that Aspect of Demogorgon example by Tobus Neth shows more than just a little inflation. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades.

| Out of curisosity, which topic was that quote in the original post taken from? I'd like to read more about these people that think $50 pit fiends are market value and priced to sell. In the end though, if their target market is the people with more cash than brains, I can't blame them for selling their stuff for the most money they can.
Although it does seem that they've reduced some of their prices. The last time this came up I think I noticed that they had Zombie White Dragons priced at $60 and now they're down to only $20.

| | I can not believe that they are selling many minis for the prices that they have listed. Possibly there are RPG'ers that have never looked into Auggies---but come on---everyone knows about ebay and any internet search engine that you use to find D&D minis will give you multiple sites with better prices. I can only think that there are a few people out there that are buying from Paizo as a "one stop shop"---supplements, books, all those Gamemastery products are priced very well--why not pick up a mini or two to go with that latest module???? | | | |

| | I have never bought DDM from them due to their absurdly high prices. I love Paizo's Dungeon Adventure Paths and now their Pathfinder publication and thus have fondness for Paizo as a company, but I can't imagine anyone buying almost any of their singles miniatures unless the customer is uninformed about the other options out there on the internet for lower prices. | | | |

| Here is the latest thread on Paizo with someone complaining about the price of their minis.
Tobus Neth wrote: When comparing your Prices to the going e-bay rate, your prices are almost four times the cost!(Demogorgon is going for $17.95 buy it now e-bay-Paizo is $70.00 why is this?
Lisa Stevens, Paizo CEO wrote:
Hey Tobus: When you are setting prices for anything collectible, there is no standard price or MSRP. The price is set by supply and demand. As somebody said earlier in the thread, if nobody wants to buy a mini at the price that it is currently at, then I lower the price until it starts to sell. If it is blowing out the door at a current price, then the price goes up a bit. Our prices have fluctuated dramatically over the course of our existence. If you had bought the Dragoneye Drizz't back in 2004, you could have had him for $20. Now, he goes for over $100 and we can't keep him in stock! I don't set my prices based on what other folks are selling minis for. I set them based upon the supply and demand here on paizo.com. And believe me, our prices must be good for some folks, since I have a hard time keeping them in stock! There is an adage in retail sales that you can pick two of the following things to be competitive with: selection, customer service, and price. We picked the first two. There are places everywhere on the web where you can get pretty much anything we sell for cheaper than we are selling it at! But can you get the selection that we have here? And will you get the great customer service that we are known for? If price is really important to you, then paizo.com isn't where you want to shop. But if selection and great customer service are more important, this is your home. -Lisa The actual thread is here if you are interested:
