I did receive one issue of dragon with the SoBD repaint but then cancelled when I received notice of billing of second issue. :) | | Thanks, realmaster. Let's split up!!!!!

| When it comes to pricing DDM singles, basically if you can cover the price of what you could sell the sealed boosters for, you break even. If you can sell figures individually for more than what you could sell the sealed booster for, then that's sheer profit (over and above the regular profit of the sealed booster market). The question here is ... how much profit are you aiming for?
If you're selling something, then presumably you're interested in maximising your profit. There are two ways of doing that. High price but slow turnover, or lower price but fast turnover. As long as you're still making profit, lower price and fast turnover would seem to generate more (fast turnover) satisfied (lower price) customers - and while the prices might be lower, you could be making more profit because you're now selling more of them to a wider market, being those previously discouraged by the higher prices.
Okay, here is how I've seen it work in stores here in Melbourne, Australia (these are approximate costs in Kangaroo Dollars, prices may vary from store-to-store):
Sealed case $165. Boosters between $14 each (if bought by the case) to $18 (individual booster). So, presumably, if 4xCommons, 3xUncommons and 1xRare individual figures are able to be sold for $14, a retail store is already achieving the standard profit they would otherwise have made from a sealed case. Anything more is icing on the cake.
Standard price for Commons are $1 each; Uncommons $2 each (occasionally $3 for large or popular Uncommons). Therefore, 4xCommons + 3xUncommons = $10. If Commons/Uncommons sell at those prices, then a retail store only need to sell Rares, ANY Rare, for $4 to make the same profit they would otherwise have made on sealed boosters. When was the last time you picked up Rares for 4 Kangaroo Dollars?
Reality check: medium Rares regularly priced upwards of $12; large rares upwards of $18; popular rares upwards of $30.
So are retailers performing a community service for those who don't appreciate random packaging? Or are they ripping us of for breaking open boosters and profiting beyond the suggested retail price? And if the single figure market is so lucrative, why do retailers bother to sell sealed boosters at all? I think the strategy most customers use is to purchase boosters individually, or by the case for a discount, and then pick up any figures they're still seeking on the singles market. Use whichever method moves product off the shelf the quickest - fast turnover ensures a steady profit.
Another consideration is that pricing and selling individual figures can be more labour intensive than selling sealed boosters. The average retail operator sells a wide variety of merchandise, and doesn't spend the hours scouring message-boards and watching eBay auctions as some here might. It's far easier for them to price high, then discount what doesn't immediately sell. | | http://www.maxminis.com/hwlist.asp?user=DarkWhite [for trade only within Australia, no overseas trade thanks]

| No. Not counting the realistically priced Promo of course.
I'm more than willing to spend the time it takes to find a mini I'm looking for at a much better price than I'd find there.

| Posted By greyhaze on 12/04/2007 12:20 PM Why buy from there when there is AUGGIES! Indeed. Not to mention many, many other sellers. I am a great supporter of Pazio, but their DDM singles prices are insane. I can find better prices easily from other reliable sellers (auggest for one) who offer better shipping costs than Paizo.

It's actually pretty funny. The SoBD is one of the nicest promos/repaints in the game. It's a mini where they have the market totally cornered, yet they sell it for a good price. Go figure. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades.

| I imagine it is because they got stuck with a lot more of them than they thought they would. No good selling them for $50 each if it takes you 20 years to sell all of them! Even the original deal was reasonable. Of course, now they're practically blowing them out. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

Which is really funny in retrospect considering the feeding frenzy when they came out and the angst folks were feeling at the possibility of missing out and having to spend some godawful after market prices on ebay. | | Ghendar - Now with 51% more snark
