Im going out on a limb right now and say im sticking with 4th edition regardless of any changes WOTC makes too the game. 3.5 will go the way  of the dinosaur and theres nothing we can do about it. Not sure if this topic is allowed but id like to see who is sick of riding the fence and is ready to commit one way or the other.

For the record, I will be playing Castles & Crusades for the forseeable future. Nothing Wizards has previewed so far indicates that 4E will support an old-school style of play so, this grognard won't be buying it.

I'll be using 3.5 for roleplaying for the forseeible future.

DDM 2.0 vs 1.0, I want to see the new rules and play around w/ the game mechanics before deciding whether I'm in or out.  Will most likely only buy 1 case instead of 3.

No fence sitting here. I will continue to pay 3.5 and have no desire to play this new game comming out next year. It doesnt resemble D&D as I know and love it at all. I own so many moduals and Dungeon magazines that new material isnt needed for me to keep playing well into the future.

As far as minis go...as long as they still make monsters from 3rd edition books Im good. I will give DOD and the huge set a go and if they change the way monsters look to drastically and keep making weird 4th edition exclusive creatures Im out.

Dude 3.5 ain't goin anywhere. Each version of D&D seems to pick-up it's groupies and keeps them. With the exception of 3rd ed. Nobody liked 3rd ed. 4th ed., after seeing the pics of the Large Green Dragon and Yuan-Ti that looks, to say the least, ridiculous - I'm not sure if i'll be able to get into it, at all... which means I won't even carry it for my customers.

Change the cover... sell it agian.

Our DM has already said that he will be switching to 4e.

For skirmish, we like to play in DCI events so there really is no choice. We have to switch to 2.0.

I have just received a LOT of 3.5 books for Christmas, have only started DMing this year (thus just now really getting into the rules), and have players perfectly content to continue playing with this ruleset, so as long as I am able to to get occasional new (used) material, I see no reason to change. If I lost my group and was forced to join a 4E group in order to continue playing, then I would only as a player - as a DM I would run 3.5 (or not DM at all).

As for minis, I will continue to collect those that are similar to 3.5 art, and are of the correct scale.

There is so much to do in 3.5, my group has barely scratched the surface. I'll probably demo 4.0 at my FLGS, and will play it if I go to GenCon. But as for our group, we are sticking with 3.5 for the foreseeable future. I'll look at it seriously when 4.5 comes out.

I've got a huge stack of 3.5 books, myself, but for the most part I'm liking the changes 4e is bringing. It seems to me like it will facilitate quicker play, which is always a plus. Besides, the rules don't dictate the story being developed at the table, so if the system is more fun, then there will be no reason for me to switch back except for a session or two for nostalgia's sake.

As for DDM 2.0, I'll be making the switch. I enjoy collecting minis as much as I do playing with them, and I use them in RPG. As long as the new ruleset is fun, I'll stand by it, because that's all I'm going to be able to play with the newer minis.

I am going to jump on the DDM 2.0 bandwagaon ASAP. D&D 4.0 sounds cool, but currently I'm involved in a D20 future campaign, so will not be changing in the near future. Probably later I will. Currently Skirmish is my main hobby.

For RPG, I'm sticking with 3.5. I won't go into the reasons again, but if you really must know, read my swan song post in the 4e forum.

As for skirmish, I plan on reading the rules when they're available for download and deciding if I want to play skirmish anymore. One thing I won't be doing is buying any minis based on skirmish stats. If I decide to play 2.0, I'll do it with whatever I keep for RPG. I will still use the 1.0 skirmish rules as well. I've found they work well enough for large scale battles on occasion.

I'm sticking with 3.5 for a while. The way I see it, there was a perceived "need" for revision when 3.0 was introduced. 2.0 had run its course and the material had been exhausted. 3.5 simply fixed most of what was wrong with 3.0, and it's close enough to the same that most 3.0 material is easily adaptable. With a few exceptions (polymorph, grapple) 3.5 works well. Most of us have only scratched the surface of the system. There's easily 10 years worth of good gaming left in 3.5. If they rewrote a few key spells and rules the system would be near perfect, IMO.

I doubt that you'll have long to wait, Jim.  I'm a 3.5e bitter-ender.  I like it.  My players like it.  I've got reams of source material.  Why change?

Being a Grognard myself, I'd be quite happy to go back to 2nd Ed!!! But with my players being youngens, they have shown an interest in this new 4.0 beast, so I will be upgrading.

DDM - no-one in my area plays it, so purely for RPG reasons here.

Once 4th comes out, hopefully 3rd and 3.5 stuff will be cheap and plentiful...i will be looking at staying with 3.5 for now. 3.5 is a decent system with Tons of material available...i see no need for change.

Unless 4.0 ends up very different than it appears so far, I will be sticking with 3.5  If I want to play WoW, I'll just play WoW.  When I want to play D and D, I want to actually play D and D.  Sorry if it seems negative on my part, but 4.0, from what I know so far, just doesn't seem like its gonna feel like D and D.  Maybe its just me being old (1st edition Monster Manual is the bible!), but I like what I like.  I am not up for tieflings and eladrin as races, powers that heal friends while hurting allies at the same time, monsters that look like a video game, and feat trees (or whatever they are).  I actually just ordered a few 3.5 books that I didn't have on the cheap.  I can play 3.5 online with my geo-seperated friends using Fantasy Grounds, so even that aspect is no longer of interest to me (especially since Fantasy Grounds is a one time program buy with no month to month siphoning of money).

As far as minis, I am starting to lose steam there as well.  I have at least two of every set, but I may seriously curb my spending there too.  Although the large bases are great from a skirmish perspective, they really suck with my Dwarven Forge stuff for RPG.  Since I anticipate many more monsters looking "weird" from what I am used to, and size creep to continue, it just may not be worthwhile for me to buy 4 cases of each set.  I might just get a single set off of ebay to satisfy DDM needs for the future releases.  Most of the RPG stuff I want has already been made, so I may just try and get more of that (especially the smaller based large minis!).

I've got no interest in 4th edition.  There's plently of other rpg systems out there that are more apealing to me.  I've got quite the load of 3.0 and 3.5 books too.  If I want to feel nostoligic and play some D&D it's going to be 3.5.

My current campaign will play to its conclusion, and I'll be sticking with 3.5 to do so.

I will, however, buy the books and learn 4e because I am an RPGA judge and can't afford to fall behind.

And, when my current campaign comes to a close and I start a new one (probably 2 or 3 years away), I'll start it in 4e.

Undecided. If I go 4e, I'll have to rewrite too much fluff, and I don't have time or want to spend time doing such a thing. It'd be nice if wotc put out a fluff conversion book for 4e to 3.5.

I'm about to begin playing a 1E campaign , so no 4E for me. I may get the PHB to read about the new rules, but probably no more.
For DDM, I only collect for RPG. As long as the monster's looks and sizes are still compatible with the previous ones I'll keep on buying 1 or 2 cases per set, otherwise it will be singles of what I like/need.

3.5 for me. At least for a bit. Mostly due to the fact that I can't afford to shell out the $$$ to buy three new sourcebooks at this point. Also, I'm kinda leery about the whole 3.0-3.5 thing still so I'll likely hold off a bit in cast WoTC pulls that little trick again. Eventually I'll pick up 4.0 and I'll hold on to my 3.5 stuff like I did with my other older edition books as well.

For RPG 3.5 forever baby! 4.0 sounds infinately lamer than the previous version. For Minis not sure, have to see the rules first. Could go to 2.0 but not guaranteed.

About minis 2.0 I am completely undecided until I see the whole new rulebook. If the new rules are better and makes the game much more realistic then I will go for them for sure. But if they remove stuff like morales,etc,etc...making the game less interesting, then I,ll continue playing 1.0.About the RPG We,ll go for 4 ed. for sure when we finish our current campaing.

Like VFULTS above.. I am currently sticking with C&C for my RPG needs.. does me and my group of grognards good. If we are not playing in my C&C game, we are in another players OSRIC/LL/BFRPG game.. .

and since I deal with the minis for RPG purposes, as long as the useable sculpts keep coming, I will be buying, 1.0 or 2.0, does not matter....

Hi Everyone,

Well there is an issue! 4.0 has this new feature that 3.5 and all earlier versions did not have. ONLINE PLAY!!!

If the online system works, I will be jumping to 4.0 very quickly. If the interface or game play stinks, then I will stay with 3.5. You see my group of players are struggling to find time to play. An Online system will help reduce some of the logistical problems we face as families, children, life, the universe and everything gets in the way. So for me it is the online play that will ultimately determine the direction I take.

I am actually looking forward to designing and GMing an online system. (I really hope it works!)

Thanks,

3.5...although I'd go back to 2e given the chance...I might collect some 2.0, but as with many others, only if the art and scale aren't drastically different than 3.5...

I'll probably stay with 3.5 for a while till 4.0 has enough to really support itself. Unfortunately I'm my gaming stores only in store dm....kind of forces me to change...cant support a product line without products...but I still have 1st ed stuff....so what happens at home...could be just about anything.

So far I will be sticking with 3.5... 4.0 just doesn't seem D&D to me instead more of a Final Fantasy thing. I might read through the PHB but will most likely stick to 3.5 as I have so much material.

Our DM has already said that he will be switching to 4e.

My DM has said the same thing. So my dilemma is do I keep on playing with my current group (good bunch of guys, but I'm highly doubtful of 4E) or instead find a 3.5 group.

For those of you already sold on 4E, what brought you to that conclusion. We really haven't seen any of the nuts and bolts of the system yet. Seems to me, those pro-4E folks are going by WotC's assurances that they are improving the game? Or is it something else?
