I have about 2000+ minis in my personal collection and even that seems like way too many for me. I have many more than that for sale in my store and storing them can be tough. I really don't see why some of you guys would need 5000 or more minis! And then your wives let you store them in your house? haha, yer nuts!

Is it more for collectors sake or do you guys actually use that many minis?

When I began to play D&D minis, my first warband was human blackguard+ displacer beast x2. Some months later, I began to play eye gruumsh+ orc champ x4. With the time I stock these two warbands and play with another warband (dual fomorian). And again stock the previous warbands.Etc,Etc....Until now.In order to answer your question: I play all my minis but I change and change them with each new set.And I store the rest into displays in my house. That is the way I have 4000 minis.Of course I collect the minis too.Oh,by the way...My girfriend thinks I,m completely crazy when she looks at my minis,so you are right about this.

I have way too many minis. Complete sets of all sets, 80% of the promos and repaints (I refuse to pay outlandish $$$ to get then all).
Then there are the extras, you know the ones you already have 6-12 for roleplaying, but still have more. These just stay a few case boxes waiting for a day to sell/trade them.

They just don't know what's good in life...Conan, tell them what is good in life.
To rip the boosters. To count the minis spilled out before you, and to hear the indifference of the women...

I'm sitting on just over 13,000 myself but I hardly use them now since my group disbanded.  I used to set up armies and battle it out.  It's more fun showing them what they see instead of saying u see 2000 orcs I just set them out.

Completed trades (16):amator, zardnaar, caustic_mouse, crisisman, ckissee, gausse, agcooper1, talistran, robby, vrecknidj, gordonbloom, nyjustal69, nasamonkey, sulaco, stormhand and oryan77 with 1 more pending.

I don't think I will ever count, but would estimate around 13-15,000 or so. I've bought at least 3 collections of 1000+ minis plus a half dozen ranging in the few hundreds of figs. Add in to that the cases that average 100 figs or so per case of which I've probably opened between 3-8 cases of each set. I had a massive amount of promos 5,000 or so, but they weren't really all mine. :) I gave them all away at stores, conventions and tournaments. I still do have 1 unopened case of kobold champ promos. I think there is about 300 of them inside so thats probably the figure I have the most of. 2nd would be abyssal maws numbering around 200 and red Samurai in the high 60's. Most rares I have is 8 beholders. I did have 7 Drizzt at one point but sold all but 1 or 2.

My goodness, those are some serious numbers.  The one I'm lookin' at is the 5,000 or so promos - I thought I had a lot of them.

Well there are 2 others that have more I think 1 we know-Zeneko and the other well you know whom I not speak of. But I do agree the numbers are amazing. Geez I really need to get my collection in order.

Actually, there are quite a few other heavy hitters out there.  Some just keep a lower profile.  Narethkraag of Mexico has a really serious collection, and Kaya Kenobi would have been up there as well if he had kept up his pace of the earlier sets.  But, there's one guy (who only posted once or twice either here or on Wizards) whose user name I can't remember, that mentioned buying 15 cases per set.

Well buying 15 cases per set should even out the randomness at least!

Yes, even with the poorer distribution of the earlier releases, this guy is sure to complete several sets with those types of numbers.

Yeah, several - like maybe 2.  I get 7 cases of each set as I sell 1 complete set to a friend of mine.  For Dod, I did not get 1 complete set out of 7 cases.  For Night Below, I did not get 1 complete set out of 7 cases.  For Unhallowed, I got 1 complete set.  There are no guarantees regardless of how many cases you buy.

That's pretty unlucky.  Someone posted here on maxminis that they managed to get a complete set of DoD with only 2 cases!  Yes that is very, very unlikely but I guess it can happen.

At the same time there were people who bought 3 cases of either Unhallowed or Night Below (can't remember which) that got the exact same 12 Rares in all 3 cases.  Goes to show it can go both ways I guess.
