| I would agree wholeheartedly with your analysis if the big "IF" in your scenario comes to fruition. IF both tournaments have the same prize. Right down to cash, a cool trophy, and most importantly the chance to design your own figure. Actually, in a way, the DDXP DDM Champion should receive the larger prize if anything in order to offset GenCon's prestige factor. Maybe have the DDXP Champ design a mini, and have the GenCon Champ design a map. Ian, let's see you do it that way, and you will be definitely telling us long time players that you have us in mind.
But, remember, there are more "IF's" to overcome in getting there.
IF Vintage receives the same regular tournament support as Standard. It's also important (probably more so) to have a Vintage Qualifier Season with the same organization and level of support as Standard. IF players themselves choose to play Vintage with/instead of Standard.
Betting on the older Vancouver minis players to go to XP instead of GenCon would still be a tough call. I can't speak for everyone, but don't forget, a lot of us hardcore DDM players still come from diverse gaming backgrounds with various gaming interests - not just D&D. It is here where GenCon wins. As inferred above, XP must offer more (not just par with GenCon) in order to overcome GenCon's overall attractiveness. I am pulling for Wizards to make as many people as happy as possible too - the healthier they are, the better they can serve our collective gaming desires. So, when something starts to rub me the wrong way, I speak up. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |
