| Reaction to minis: A demon/devil type? Totally disinterested. Another zombie? Ok Hydra? I am a bit ambivalent as it's 4th edition style. It's a large instead of a huge. I guess I will still be using the behir for a hydra--sure it doesn't have enough heads but it is the right size and looks sort of ok as a hydra. | | "Look to God and live." | Posted By Temperance on 01/31/2008 9:49 PM I'm working with Shoe; he's the lead Developer as always. There has been several designers for minis the last few years; Rob Heinsoo, Matthew Sernett, Jesse Decker, and most recently Logan Bonner. Rob is now the team leader for RPG R&D mechanical design (my team leader), Matthew has moved to digital games (where original minis Developer Mike Donais is as well), Jesse Decker is running Organized Play (I forget his exact title now) and Logan is still on the design team -- he designed the set list/art order for 18 while they were searching for a replacement for Sernett; that replacement would end up being me. I get a lot of guidance from Shoe and Rob, so don't think they're not involved on the design side; but the majority of the work will be mine for the near future -- assuming I don't crash and burn, of course... ;)
well congrats peter. you have put a lot of your personal time into the game so you definitely deserve it. :) | | Thanks, realmaster. Let's split up!!!!!

| Demons and devils are always welcome with me, and I love the sculpt and paint job on the Ascendant Hellsword.
The Fen Hydra has a decent sculpt, though I am worried about seams. The paint job looks flat and could REALLY use a wash, but I'm hoping that it's just a bad picture. As for it having no legs, I couldn't care less. It may not be classic in the sense that it isn't identical with the 2nd and 3rd edtion incarnation, but in greek mythology, a hydra was merely a large, multi-headed serpent. That's it. No legs. In any case, I'm glad we're getting one.
The chill zombie is typically common, simple paint job and everything. I don't like it, but then, I am not impressed with any of these new gmmicky zombies and skeletons. | | Champion of the Catoblepas

| Where the Hydra is concerned, I think WotC could still appease fans of the classic 2nd or 3rd Edition appearance and the Huge or larger size by releasing a Hydra Iconics pack. If they make the Hydra a Huge, then make it the Hydra versus a party of 4 Uniques (a great time to make updates of Krusk, Jozan, Ember, Nebbin, Kerwyn, etc.) to make it a playable Encounter-in-a-Box type release. If they want to go for a Gargantuan, they can release it as a single like the Black and Blue Dragons. Either way, I think the fans will be satisfied. And if they do that will all the classic monsters, releasing stand-alone 3rd Edition versions, it'd go a long way to soothing our fears and dislike of 4th Edition art. I certainly have room in my heart (and campaigns) for both, but I'm unwilling to embrace 4th Edition and completely abandon the older or, to use WotC's preferred term, "Vintage" look of my favorite beasties. | | | |

| I believe that the Hydra (the first Hydra at least) had to be huge. We were expecting her a long time. :(
I think I prefer the old design for an Hydra. In the books of the Hercules, the Hydra usually is depicted with a design similar to the old D&D one.
McFarlane's Hydra is using the same concept like the D&D 4e Hydra but her size is "Gargantuan"

| | Yes, most of us take our mental pictures of Hydras from movies/shows/cartoons of Hercules. I'm not sure why D&D wanted to distance itself from canon. Maybe it's a long term plan to bring back the original Hydra in 5e so we can cheer for it again. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

| The Ascendant Hellsword looks great to me.
The Hydra isn't too bad. It's not like they can't make a huge version later on.
Zombies are always good.
So far I'm liking what I've seen.

| Hi Everyone,
It is nice to get previews again! It seems like it has been months. Oh yeah! It has been months. :(
The Ascendant Hellsword is an interesting looking devil. I like the sculpt and the paint job. Does remind me of a Tiefling on steroids.
The Fen Hydra is OK! It will likely get used. I too would like to see a more traditional one as a Huge.
The Chillborn looks like one of those Blue Guys on a bad day. But zombie sculpts that almost looks like zombie sculpts is a plus. I too didn't care for the Horde Zombie in Wardrums. The Strahd Zombies in Unhallowed was nice though!

Blast it all! We just faced a Hydra last week! Had to use a Beholder as a Proxy.
That's rough when you have to use a Beholder as a Hydra. Aspect of Tiamat would not have been a bad proxy. How about a Large Green Dragon and then put tokens on the base to represent the different heads? Thankfully, I have a nice pewter Hydra, but it is only Large in size.
Later,
Mazra
