I'd like to see more noncombatants in DDM (ie no drawn weapons or any
weapons at all). To make this work for DDM as well as RPG, they would
(obviously) be tech pieces that either enhance or weaken stats, help
score VP (ala Prisoner), or something new with 2.0. Here are a few ideas I have (mind you, this is with 1.0 in mind so the general idea would need to be translated to 2.0): 1. Gypsy Dancer - has a beguile or counter song ability 2. Damsel - very similar to the prisoner but for a LG faction (Civilization for 2.0) 3. Blacksmith - allies within X squares get +1 to atk or +1 to AC 4. King (man, I wish the new SWM Roan Fel didn't have a lightsaber)
- boost allies stats but would score double VP for enemy when destroyed 5. Apothecary - treats negative status and effects on allies and heals 6. Traveler/Wanderer - scout ability, grants something similar to Tactics for allies within X squares (probably just 1 use) 7. Greedy Merchant - scores double VP when it occupies a VA at the end of the round, but has the special ability jittery 8. Diplomat - negates VP scored in VA, similar to Diseased Dire Rat's Distracting Presence 9. Friar - allies within X squares get bonus against evil creatures 10. Queen - allies within X squares gain fearless. 11. Townsman - nothing special, just cheap fodder 12. Townswoman - nothing special, just cheap fodder 13. Magic Shopkeeper - grants random effects based on a d20 roll (magic weapon, flight, conceal, etc) 14. Falconer - enemies with X squares lose Conceal, Hide, and Invisibility 15. Thief - at the end of a round receives half of VP while adjacent
to an enemy in a VA and that enemy only receives half of the normal VP
(if VP at the end of the round is 10, the theif gets 5 and the enemy
gets 5). The Thief also scores normal VP as well (so, if the Thief is
in a VA is adjacent to an enemy creature in a VA in a 200 pt game, at
the end of the round, the Theif would score 15 VP while the enemy
creature would only score 5) 16. Scribe - bonus to init checks and an ability similar to the Standardbearer's Relay Orders 17. Scholar - grants a bonus against certain creature types (similar to knowledge checks in PRG) 18. Bard - grants bonuses to stats and negatives to enemy stats. Has
no weapon drawn, just their instrument (harp, lute, flute, etc) 19. Storyteller - causes negative status effects to enemies 20. Alchemist - not armed with a traditional weapon, but has vials
and bottles of various grenade like weapons (alchemist's fire, acid
flask, etc) 21. Lady at the Well - woman with large jug on her hip or head. Provides healing and cures to negative status 22. Village Midwife - ordinary looking villager that provides healing and cures to negative status 23. Woodsman/Hunter - able to set several types of traps 24. Witch - negative status on enemy creatures 25. Bagpiper - CG/LG version of Orc Wardrummer. Grants bonuses to warband | | Originally posted by Schooly_D Username - he deals in minis Champion of Lhesh Haruuc Shaarat'kor | |

| I also think this is a terrific idea. Since it seems that all minis made must have some use in the skirmish game, this idea would be an elegant solution to the problem of introducing townsfolk minis. Almost gives it an "urban warfare" feel. Great job!

| Yes - genuinely unarmed noncombatants would be fantastic. These would fill an RPG gap nicely. (It would also help WotC break out of the rut of endlessly resculpting things they have already produced.)

| Ah, didn't realize the thread was over here too.
Yup, I'm all for a limited number of noncombatants. The important thing for me is that the figure can serve multiple roles in a game -- I think a general apron-wearing "shopkeeper" is more likely to get approved than an armorsmith or a bartender. Likewise, a general noble is better than a king or a prince.
The one area that I need more thought on is a strong case for a "maiden" figure. There hasn't been a very good female noncombatant figure yet, and I'd like to change that. (I don't count the Cleric of Sune as a noncombatant.) Perhaps it is as simple as having a figure named "Villager" and be a woman in a dress, but I feel that we're missing out on a good wide-scope figure. (And before you suggest it, I don't consider "bar maid" to be a very wide scope.)
Also, the first process to get a figure made is the art order -- this is the physical description of the miniature. Giving game rules right away is a bit premature; before that I need a solid concept for the looks of a figure. | | Champion of the common Flying Monkey (Fez optional) Peter Lee on the WotC board BAD WOLF

| It shouldn't be hard to do dual purposed figures that could serve as townsfolk. Peter has ruled out children minis and I understand WOTC's rationale for it. However it should be easy to do a few unarmored/unarmed figures and still make them useful in skirmish.
1. Merchant. the sketch of Mirt the Moneylender from Forgotten Realms would be perfect for this. Call him a wizard, rogue, shopkeeper, spy, whatever, and give him some skirmish stats that'll make him a decent uncommon.
2. Maiden. In the preview book for 4E characters, there is a picture of a blonde woman wearing a cloak, halter top, and skirt. She's identified as a wizard. Modify the figure so she's wearing a dress, call her a wizard for skirmish, and we have our maiden.
3. Wanderer. Just a figure wearing traveling clothes and a pack; maybe a dagger at his belt. He could be a warlock, rogue, wizard, sage, spy, whatever for skirmish stats.
4. Thugs/Lowlifes. Make some unarmored male and female figures in action poses but keep their swords or daggers sheathed. Cheap skirmish brawlers/rogues/whathaveyou and rpg gets tavern patrons!
Regards,
V
