Quoting Massawyrm: So what’s wrong with dragons? Well, for starters, there is longer any dragons smaller than LARGE size. To many of you that won’t mean anything. But to those of us who have collected Dungeons and dragon Minis from way back in harbinger – we’ve just gotten screwed. I have a whole drawer of small and medium dragons that no longer serve any use. I mean, I guess I can paint them and use them as drakes. But not as dragons. Especially since many of them weren’t exactly easy to come by. That got me a little pissy. I was bound to get some guesses wrong but it looks like I called this one correctly.
Personally I'm fine with it. I could never get all that jazzed about 6 PCs surrounding and beating on a dragon just barely bigger than our dog.
Also many of the Medium minis fit perfectly fine on a large base (40mm Games Workshop special). Medium Brass has always been on one for me.
As a side note his comments on the Minions make it neccesary for getting maybe 12-24 of some of those Commons.

| | That's okay, I've always felt that dragons should be larger than humans/humanoids. Being bigger makes things more imposing. | | Small and medium dragons existance is a matter of pure logic.A current large dragon was always smaller in the past. And ,as a dungeon master, I do not put a lot of large dragons during my campaings because it would be very dangerous for the Players.Smaller dragons are more viable so, we need more of them. I like all sizes but obviously, the larger the dragon is, the cooler it is. | | LOVE THIS GIRL | |

| It DnD 3.5 Large Dragons indicated a CR around 10 which I feel is about right. Sure the smaller dragons could be encountered by weaker parties but when the dragon was about the same size as you then you could be pretty sure you could handle it. If the RPG only uses large+ dragons the game will lose something.
Now with the skirmish game I can certainly see making all dragons large if for no other reason than to keep them impressive. I like the appearance of the medium sized dragons I have well enough but unfortunatelythey don't really convey DRAGON to me nearly as well as the larger ones do.

We must never use this argument when talking about D&D or DDM, as so much of it already defies reason Never use this argument? I could not disagree with that statement more! Sure its a fantasy game. Yeah, dragons and monsters and magic don't really exist. That does not mean I also don't want my world to make sense, and be based on logic. I love realism in my fantasy gaming! Just because the game can be made up off the top of one's head doesn't mean it should be. The more that things make sense to me in a fantasy game, the closer the way some things work to the real world, the more vividly I can imagine it. Sure, at some point you have to step in and say that logic no longer works... explaining exactly how magic works, or why the game world, being thousands and thousands of years old, hasn't invented the automobile yet, when they have steel and oil available. But I am perfectly fine with, and even wholeheartedly encourage, accpeting that a dragon exists in my gaming world, and that it is logical that its baby dragons should be small. That makes it feel more realistic to me, and basically, makes it more enjoyable. Some inherant things have to be predictable to the players. Changing everything that is logical in a world just because it is a "fantasy game" wouldn't necessarily translate into a better gaming session. At least it wouldn't to me. I don't like feeling like I don't know what is going on because the rules of the world are so vastly differrent from the world I actually live in. I played with a DM like that once and it was horrible. Everything had to be completely different, and instead of a good gaming session, it ended up being us sitting around watching just how "unique" this guys world could be. Not fun. Taking away logic can lessen the connection you have with your character, and that connection, to me, is the biggest reason to play in the first place.

| Based on the 4e MM there is room in the game for dragons smaller than large, but the MM only lists Dragons as Adult-large, Elder-huge, and Ancient-Gargantuan.
Like most of the creatures stats can be somewhat fluid and you could make up some small or medium dragons and they'd be elites, standard, or even minions. They just didn't make it in the limited space of the 4e MM (along with a couple hundred other 'core' creatures). | | Called Shot: Against the Giants -- Aboleth Called Shot: Demonweb - Large Whip Spider Another Champion of the Aboleth | |

| Just because they aren't in the MM1 doesn't mean they won't be space filler in the MM2/MM3/MM4/etc.
I expect medium and smaller dragons will still be made. They'll just not be made frequently (not that they ever were made frequently).
I still need a tiny white dragon for the Sunless Citadel and a tiny black for another adventure (can't remember for sure which one atm). | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months.
