Gary Gygax, one of the co-creators of the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, died Tuesday morning at his home in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, according to Stephen Chenault, C.E.O. of Troll Lord Games.
Gygax designed the original D&D game with Dave Arneson in 1974, and went on to create the Dangerous Journeys and Lejendary Adventure RPGs, as well as a number of board games. He also wrote several fantasy novels.
Gygax was not directly involved with Dungeons & Dragons after 1985, but he continued to create adventures to be used with it, which were published by Troll Lord Games.
Gygax had been in poor health for some time, according to his wife Gail. Chenault says he will publish more information, including funeral arrangements, on the Troll Lord message board as it becomes available. | | Greyhaze's DDM Spoilers Champion of a Medium Dog & then a Darkenbeast , Raistlin Majere, Nightmare WDQ25/60, Warduke WD60/60, Anti-Champion of Guns, "Knight of Bugbears", and Joke Champion of Venger. | I didn't always care for the massive amounts of character deaths that would invariably occur when running one of his adventures, but I definitely respect the man that helped make everything from D&D, to World of Warcraft, to Magic: The Gathering possible.

| | This news really bumms me out. Gary Gygax had a tremendous infuence on my life. I can't imagine what my life would be like if D&D had not been a part of it. I place him up there with Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and H.P. Lovecraft when it comes to my current likes and dislikes.
Then again, with the somewhat recent passing of Tom Moldvay there is the start to one heck of a gaming group in the afterlife! May all your hits be crits wherever you are Mr. Gygax!! | |

| Does anyone know where to get a public use photo of Gary Gygax? I created a memorial page on my website for him, but I want to find a photo that I'm OK to use for it without infringing on any legal use issues.
Yeah, I know that I could yank down one of the numerous photos from other folks' sites on the net to use but I really like to get proper permission for this sort of thing.
If anyone is interested in seeing the page so far, the web link to my memorial page is: http://wcbvaults.com/memorials/gygax.php
