| I just bought some Dungeon Tiles (produced by Wizards of the Coast) on Amazon, and was pretty impressed with the quality of the cardstock and the potential usefulness of the tiles. However, selection for many outdoor wilderness, village, city and other settings is still pretty limited, as there basically is only one set of outdoor tiles, on set of caverns and the rest are dungeon tiles.
Then I saw that Paizo is selling a big variety of Gamemastery Map Packs. Has anyone here tried these? If so, how do they compare with the Wizards' Dungeon Tiles in terms of quality and versatility? Are they compatible? Are they made on nice good cardstock or are they paper maps? Would you recommend Paizo's Map Packs for use for settings not covered by WOTC's Dungeon Tiles? | | | |

| I have several of the map packs from Paizo (and a metric tonne of Dungeon Tiles from WotC). The DT win the durability contest hands down. The map packs are single sided and printed on thin cardstock (i.e. you could easily make them into paper airplanes). They do offer a large variety of settings however and I have used them in conjunction with the DTs. Probably the biggest strike against them is the cost. They are more expensive than the DTs and you get about the same square footage as the DTs (possibly less). Also they are all the same size and shape with many fitting together to form a specific building or scene (ie in one set there is a large outdoor ampitheater that uses 4 tiles - these really can't be used to represent anything else). Overall my grading would be

| | I think Pale Rider summed it up pretty well. The paizo tiles are pretty comparable to the old DDM tiles in thickness. I'd rate them a little higher than he did simply because I like the detail on the ones I have. | | Eye dun no why youse guys think im not relly a person im jimgang from canada but im moving to cali as soon as i get a master card -Jimgang So, you stand at your grave, Has your soul yet been taken away? | There was another thread 'round here about this, but basically, the Paizo ones can be summed up as follows: "Flimsier Dungeon Tiles, different art"

| | Yes, one thing about the official WotC Dungeon Tiles is their build quality. They look like they can withstand years and years of regular gaming. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

| Well, they're both 5” x 8” The Paizo ones are more RPG-worthy, IMHO | | Waiting for Chainmail Equivalencies since 2005

Care to elaborate why?

| Well, on the ones I have (Compleat Encounters) one side's pristine, and the other side's the same room after being ransacked, ruined, etc. There are no large black walls (to prevent line-of-sight) as there are no START areas.
Now as for the new Dungaon tiles, in their variable shapes, I'd have to reccommmend those.
I thought we were just discussing the 5" x 8" tiles

| | Stephengroy, I think you were comparing with the WOTC minis tiles from the first few sets of DDM. I was actually talking about a more recent product from WOTC. Dungeon Tiles are not meant for the minis game. They are meant for use with miniature combat for the D&D roleplaying game. They don't contain start areas. They are thick cardboard and can be set down in various configurations to create various rooms and corridors or outdoor areas (depending on the tiles used) and also contain other smaller tiles such as traps, stairs, horses, boulders, furnishings, etc. which can be set down over the larger tiles. They sell for 9.95 per pack on Amazon. | | | |
