Hey All:
On another post there was a discussion about dungeon tile storage and during the discussion I had mentioned something I had recently done with the tiles which makes them exceptionally awesome in use.  I had come to the thought about using them to design maps of my own on my computer.  With that thought in mind I took the time to scan all the tiles I had and saved them in a file designating what set they came from, how many of that tile I had and a description of what each represented.  I made sure that each was scanned nicely and then cropped them all to be a pretty perfect square.Â

The reason I did this was a couple of reasons.  The first was that when I wanted to set them up on the table to make a map I had so many that I had to lay each down and shuffle through them to make up the map I desired.  It was fun, but very time consuming.  During a game you don't want to sit there pulling out tiles and trying to set them up.  It takes away from the excitement of the game.  Second, I enjoy giving my players cool maps of the area and constantl;y grabbing tiles to make the area was a waste of time during the game.  I would only use the tiles for main rooms where a big battle was going to happen.Â

This made me think that if I had them all scanned to my computer I could play around with all the tiles and design maps I wanted on my computer.  If I wanted to pull the tiles out to literally put them on the table they were all listed from which set they came from and with them now being stored in a nice accordion file it was very easy to pull them out after my map was designed.Â

After making my first map I realized how great it came out.  It looked like a professional map making system and with little needed knowledge to make it.  I simply imported the tiles I wanted and set them up on my art program (Corel Draw) to make a great map.  I made one for a church for my game and it worked out fantastic.  My reccomendation would be for all of you to consider scanning the tiles and then creating maps on whatever art program you use to design awesome maps.  I atached a link to the map I made.  This map was made in under 10 minutes.  Since it worked so well I have now taken the time to fix some of the scanned images and I just finished making a dungeon room for our next battle.  Take a look at the map and let me know what you think.  This may be another great use for the tiles besides simply laying them down on the table.  Everything on the map is from the dungeon tiles.

Nice map.

I am sure you enjoyed your code but I remember that there was a program in the WotC site to build maps from tiles.

I prefer Jai's (who actually made the WotC one) over at Hordelings:

Yeah, Jai's is great. either way, it's awesome to be able to plan out your dungeon.

Anyone know if Jai has one for SW tiles yet?

Really? Is the one Jai made at Hordelings really superior to the one Jai made for Wotc?

Since it is updated, and will be updated with all of the new sets, I would say yes. ;o)
